FLAMES WIN SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT The Wyoming Valley Flames U14 girls softball team captured the Vipers Back to School Blast Tournament Championship Sept. 4 and 5 in Dallas. In the final, the Flames rallied from a 3-run deficit to top the Lock Haven Aftershock, 6-5. SPORTS BRIEFS Girls basketball tournament slated The double elimination Future Stars Basketball Tourna- ment for seventh and eighth- grade girls will be held today, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Kingston Recreation Center, 655 Third Ave. Players may sign up as indi- viduals and be placed on a team or they may sign up as a team. Teams are limited to eight players per roster and each roster must include one seventh-grader. No more than two sixth-graders may be add- ed to the roster. There will be a tack ex- change, pony rides, pumpkin decorating, removable horse tattoos and cider, cookies and cupcakes for sale. The Bobcats were defeated, 18-12, by the Edwardsville-Larksvill Hurricanes. WYOMING VALLEY YOUTH FOOTBALL CONFERENCE Jr. Mounts C team gets victory B TEAM Back Mountain 18 Ed-Lark 12 The Back Mountain Bobcats B Team suffered an 18-12 loss against the Ed-Lark Hurricanes but not without a fight. The Hurricanes were the first to score in the first quarter but were unable to complete the 2- point conversion. The Bobcats answered back with a touchdown by Nick Whitesell. The 2-point conversion attempt by Stone Mannello was unsuccessful and the score was tied, 6-6, at the end of the first quarter. Great offense was played by Christopher Allen, Nate Hazel- tine, Owen Morgan, Zack Gabel, Henry Selingo and Ian Evans. Late in the second quarter, the Hurricanes scored again and took a 12-6 lead at the half. At the start of the third, the Bobcats defense of Kayla Bid- ding, Zack Hill, Quinten Huey, Marcus Steele, Ryan Wolken, Nathan LaBar, Christopher Allen and Nate Hazeltine made some incredible plays. Great runs were made by Nick Whitesell, Stone Mannello, Nate O'Donnell and RJ Driscoll. The Hurricanes scored late in the third quarter to go ahead, 18-6, but the Bobcats drove the field and Nick Whitesell found the end zone, closing in at 18-12. The team, however, was unable to score on its final possession. Nate LaBar recovered three fumbles and great defensive plays were made by Nate Hazel- tine, Owen Morgan, Stone Man- nello, RJ Driscoll, Nick Whitesell and Christopher Allen. C TEAM Dallas 38 Plymouth 8 The Dallas Jr. Mounts C Team improved to 4-0 last Sunday by defeating Plymouth, 38-8. The Dallas offense showed di- versity as 10 different player: ran the ball. The offensive line, led by Blaine Rex, Ethan Scioscia, Shawn Henniger and Josepg. Brennan, controlled the lire : scrimmage all day. The defense was once agin a stellar unit, surrendering its only touchdown in the last minute of the game.
