The 2010 Harveys Lake Home- coming was a weekend-long cele- bration of activities for children and adults, all with the purpose of keeping the lake community beautiful. Mayor Clarence Hogan, chair- man of this year’s homecoming, said the borough hoped to raise about $3,000 this year to be used for future beautification projects. The weekend opened with a kickoff dance at the Harveys Lake Beach Club. Saturday included a “Kids Day” at the fire and ambu- lance company, a family walk and bike ride around the lake, an art show, a boat show, a car show, a craft show, a sailboat ride and a motorcycle ride for homeless vet- erans. An “Anything Floats” race chal- lenged contestants to assemble floating devices using their imag- inations and whatever else they could find. According to organiz- er Maureen Devine, the contest was the first of its kind on the lake. Winner of the contest was a bi- cycle-powered water skimming apparatus named “Designed by Drunks,” captained by Mike Rush. The “Conduit Kids” took the award for most enthusiastic group and the “Wind Jam’r” was built by youths from ages 8 to 13 using empty milk jugs for buoyan- cy. “The Devine Dingy” won in the two and six-man category. Bryn Harvey, descendant of Benjamin Harvey, the lake’s dis- coverer and namesake, sang the national anthem as part of Sun- day’s activities while anglers took partina sunrise bass tournament. Winners of the Lake Princess Contest were McKayla Williams, Hailey Shaw, Mackenzie Avery, Rachel Klein and Caidence Leach. Lake officials sat in a dunk tank while a commemorative stamp and postcard for Harveys Lake were unveiled and Rob Kuschke, coordinator of the Harveys Lake Little League, was named volun- teer of the year.
