Y The Wyoming County American Cross will hold its 2010 Sum- er Spectacular from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Skyhaven Airport, Tunkhannock. Appearing inside the south hangar at Skyhaven Airport will be featured entertainers Alan Thatch- er, Midnight Sun, The Escape Art- ists, Last Chance, Ron Williams and Endless Mountains Bluegrass Band. Rayz Toonz DJ Service, of Beaumont, will provide music and announcements. Crafters and vendors, Bingo, in- stant Bingo, a basket raffle, food, re- freshments and much more will be offered. This year’s event serves a special purpose by helping to raise funds for the purchase and outfitting of a new disaster response truck capa- ble of towing the agency’s disaster relief trailer. En Plein artists to present talks Several artists from the PA En Plein Air Society will present in- formal gallery talks which in- clude drawing and painting demonstrations through Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Luzerne County Community College’s Schulman Gallery, Nanticoke. These programs are part of a plein air art exhibit at the col- lege entitled Whistle Stops & Depots which documents his- toric railroad architecture of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Back Mountain artists who will participate in the program are Charles Woodworth, Hun- lock Creek, who will demon- strate colored pencil or pastel on Saturday, Aug. 14; Ryan Frania, Shavertown, who will demon- strate graphite and colored pen- cil drawings of railroad related subjects on Thursdays, Aug. 5, 12 and 19; and Sue Hand, Dallas, who will demonstrate drawing and painting from historical ref- erences as well as discuss histor- ic railroad painting in oil, acrylic and watercolor on Friday, Aug. 13, and Wednesday, Aug. 25.
