MOUNTAINLITTLE LEAGUE BOYS ACTION nae J Mingey's slam lifts Phillies, 5-4 | Daniel Mingey blasted a dramatic game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Phillies to a 54 victory over the Orioles to capture the major league championship at the Back Moun- tain Little League. Ten-year-old Adam Borton delivered the game-winning RBI single to left field with one out. Trailing 4-0, the Phillies started the sixth inning with a walk by Chad Phillips. Next, Jeremy Jayne ripped his second single of the game and Lee Eckert followed with a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Mingey’s big home run. Eckert struck out six Orioles in 5 1/3 innings before Jeremy Jayne earned the win in relief. The Orioles’ David Simpson had three RBI, including a two-run home and a double. Charles Giacometti delivered an RBI single. Matt Moleski pitched excellent, striking out eight Phillies before getting to the 85 pitch limit in the sixth inning. BACK MOUNTAINLITTLE LEAGUE GIRLS ACTION Mennig hurls Sliders to championship win Sliders beat Phoenix, 8-5 to win the major league girls champion- ship in the Back Mountain Little League. Winning pitcher was Olivia Mennig who struck out six in six in- nings while Jen Ringsdorf struck out 11 for the Phoenix. Lia Giampietro led the Sliders with a triple and two singles. Singles were also hit by Kelly Snyder, Kami McGee and Mennig. Kirsten Cope and Madison Ross had singles for the Phoenix. The Sliders also won the regular season championship.
