Born in Lehman Township on March 12, 1914, she graduated from Lehman Township High School. She was employed by the fam- ily business, Ancin Grocery, lo- cated on Carey Avenue in Ha- ~ nover Township, until 1972. She then worked for Dr. Cooper in Mountain Top. She was a member of the for- mer St. Stephen’s Church, Ply- mouth, now known as All Saints Parish. She belonged to the Ros- ary Society and The Slovak Ca- tholic Ladies Association. Surviving are two nephews; half nephews; great-nieces; a great-nephew; and great-great- nieces. CRAGIE - John F., 63, of Niemchik Road, Hunlock Creek, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 from heart failure while working at home. Born in Nanticoke on Decem- ber 17, 1946, he was raised in Bridgeport, Conn. and Pond Hill and graduated from Newport High School in 1966 and barber school. He barbered in Shickshinny, Fort Durkee Hotel in Wilkes- Barre and Pond Hill. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a petroleum specialist. For 36 years, he worked at Unison Engine Components (formerly King 5th Wheel) of Mountain Top. Years earlier, he was employed at Eberhard Fab- er, St. Regis Paper and Fulton Lamp. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Charlotte Jones; daughter, Lori Ashton, of Shavertown; sons, John R., of Austin, Texas; and Scott, of Washington, Ga.; two grand- sons; two granddaughters; sis- ters, Loretta Blackburn, of Rey- burn; Maryann Kollar, of Nanti- coke; and Christine Stankevitch, of Nescopeck; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. GORDON - Thomas G., 36, of Pikes Creek, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Geisinger Wyom- ing Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Wilkes-Barre on Au- gust 9, 1973, he was employed as an automobile mechanic. Surviving are his father, Ger- ald Gordon, of Lovelton; moth- er, Rae Ayers, of Pikes Creek; sis- ter, Heidi, of Lehman; brother, Jeremy, of Falls; stepbrother, James Headley, of Pikes Creek; stepsister, Fay Ann Guyette, of Old Forge; two nephews, a niece, aunts, uncles and cousins. HESS - Henry Edward Sr., 97, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Colum- bia, Md. Born on Nov. 7, 1912 in Forty Fort, he attended a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth- grade and then went to King- ston High School. After settling in Dallas, he be- came an operator at an ice plant in nearby Wilkes-Barre. After en- listing in the U.S. Navy, he went to New Orleans to inspect land- ing ships being prepared for the Pacific. After the war, he return- ed to the ice plant and then be- came an agent with the North- western Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Wilkes-Barre. He was an active member of Rotary International where he was honored with the Paul Har- ris Award. He was a member of the Orange Church for 30 years and also served on the Dallas School Board. Surviving are his wife, Do- rothy Ransom Hess, 95, to whom he was married for 75 years; children, Barbara Darling, of Keaau, Hawaii; Richard R, of Exchange; Mary Quarrier, of Co- lumbia, Md.; Nancy Allen, of Ed- James V. He moved to the Scranton area where he worked as a maintenance manager in Tall Trees Apartments in Scran- ton.
