“Make a Splash! Read!” this summer at the
Back Mountain Memorial Library’s summer reading
program. This summer’s theme of water will take par-
ticipants on a pirate ship to the banks of Frances Slo-
cum State Park, inside an aquarium and sailing the
Children’s Room Lake.
Young readers will be able to
choose any fiction or non-fiction
books of interest to them and
keep track on a reading log or on-
line.
They will have fun, earn
prizes, attend special programs
and enjoy the pastime of read-
ing!
All the fun starts on June 14
and continues throughout the
summer.
Participants can register at the
library and make a sea creature
to hang from the ceiling or take
home.
Registration can also be done
online at www.backmountainli-
brary.org.
Participants who read at least
eight books over the summer
will collect a special prize.
Those who are not yet reading
can also participate by having
someone read the books to them.
Summer reading improves
reading skills, develops posi-
tive attitudes about reading,
encourages library use, motiva-
tes families to read together, al-
lows freedom of choice of books
and library media and provides
an opportunity to make friends
and meet neighbors.
