Second row, Rebekah Stuart and Theresa Restaino Seniors will display their artwork Eight Back Mountain graduating seniors from Sue Hand’s Imagery, representing three area high schools, will hold their senior art exhibit on Monday and Tuesday, May 24 and 25, at Sue Hand’s Imagery, 35 Main St., Dallas. The 12th-grade Back Mountain students include Blair Costanti- no, Dallas; Nicole Hilstolsky, Wyoming; Laura Madeira, Dal- las; Ellen Matza, Shavertown, Re- becca McMahon, Hunlock Creek; Kaitlyn Monahan, Wyoming; Theresa Restaino, Shavertown; and Rebekah Stuart, Dallas. Each student will exhibit up to 20 pieces of artwork, a retrospec- tive of their artistic endeavors throughout their years at Sue Hand’s Imagery. All eight students have re- ceived numerous art awards for their drawings and paintings in many varied art contests and ex- hibits. Many of the students have studied art with Sue Hand since elementary school. The graduates will pursue ca- reers in business, architecture, history, bio-chemistry, nursing, psychology and marine biology. Library's summer reading program makes a splash hoy readers from pre-school through high school! “Make a Splash! Read!” this summer at the Back Mountain Memorial Library’s summer reading program. This summer’s theme of water will take par- ticipants on a pirate ship to the banks of Frances Slo- cum State Park, inside an aquarium and sailing the Children’s Room Lake. Young readers will be able to choose any fiction or non-fiction books of interest to them and keep track on a reading log or on- line. They will have fun, earn prizes, attend special programs and enjoy the pastime of read- ing! All the fun starts on June 14 and continues throughout the summer. Participants can register at the library and make a sea creature to hang from the ceiling or take home. Registration can also be done online at www.backmountainli- brary.org. Participants who read at least eight books over the summer will collect a special prize. Those who are not yet reading can also participate by having someone read the books to them. Summer reading improves reading skills, develops posi- tive attitudes about reading, encourages library use, motiva- tes families to read together, al- lows freedom of choice of books and library media and provides an opportunity to make friends and meet neighbors. A meet-the-artists reception and graduation ceremony will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 24.
