Three Dog Night was formed by Hutton and Wells in 1968 and the group was enormously suc- cessful from the start. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with its ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinc- tive and appealing style, resulted in three No. 1 singles, 11 Top 10 hits, including 18 straight songs that reached the Top 20. The band has sold seven million sin- gles and recorded 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. Since 1986, they have performed more than 2,000 shows, including two Super Bowls. Three Dog Night is also recording and preparing to re- lease a new studio album. The Under the Stars Summer Arts Festival continues July 21 when The Ken Peplowski Octet presents an evening of best-loved jazz standards from “The Great American Songbook.” The Gold- en Age of songwriting from the 1920s to 1960s produced endur- ing popular favorites that per- meated American culture. Those songs still melt hearts to this day. Featured are eight talented musi- cians who are members of The Statesmen of Jazz, and/or who have shared the stage with stars such as Rosemary Clooney and Frank Sinatra. Band leader Ken Peplowski is a clarinet player in the Benny Goodman vein. He played tenor sax with Goodman in his last or- chestra that played all over the world under U.S. State Depart- ment sponsorship. Peplowski originally played with the Tom- my Dorsey Orchestra under Bud- dy Morrow. For tickets, call the Misericor- dia University Box Office at 674- 6719.
