The conference, called Women's Firsts and Other Women of Distinction, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, in the Lemmond Theater at Misericordia University. in existence from 1943 through 1954 and was the inspiration for the 1992 movie, “A League of Their Own.” The movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Science Center auditorium as part of the university’s movie and discussion series. “When I had first started think- ing about this project, I sat down with my adviser (Joan Meehan) and I was thinking really big and I said, I could get Michelle Obama’ and she laughed and I said I could always try, it’s worth a shot,” Carr said. “I thought, ‘You know, I don’t think I'm going to hear back from any of these.” But then a few weeks later, I heard back from a couple of them and I thought, ‘I could go somewhere with this’ and I sent out a few more.” Each local speaker will have 15 minutes to speak while others will speak for 30 minutes.
