Ending on a high note he Wilkes-Barre Junior Pens Squirt B team concluded its inaugural season with two championships in consecutive weekends. The team closed out its regular season by winning the Delaware Valley Hockey League Championship and most recently being crowned the Congressional Cup cham- pions at a tournament in Washington DC. The team posted an 18-2 record in DVHL games and an overall season record of 35-10-1. The playoff championship was highlighted by a come-from-be- hind 6-5 double overtime victory with four unanswered goals in the opening round and a 3-2 vic- tory in the finals against the top- seeded Lancaster Firebirds. The Congressional Cup cham- pionship was achieved by win- ning five consecutive games over a three-day period. The team’s head coach is Don Tweedy while Rob Switzer and Charlie Leo serve as assistant coaches. Back Mountain Bandits score victory The U-11 Back Mountain Bandits lacrosse team trav- eled to Mountain Top and se- cured its first win of the sea- son with a 5-3 victory. Michael Santora, Ryan Co- hen, Stone Mannello and Ricky Morgan all scored goals for the Bandits. Middies Luke Yaple, Max Gordon, Jaryn Polit Moran, RJ Driscoll, Ricky Morgan, Stone Mannello and Michael Santora did a great job of keeping the ball in goal range. Attackers Ryan Cohen, Gabriel Zeilinski, Alesey Metz, Matthew Duffy, Joey Gibbons, Dylan Hakim and Jack Ziemba played great of- fense. Goalie Justin Butsavage, along with defensive players Jacob Switzer, Derek Gordon, Evan Butcofski, Lucas Volpet- ti, Owen Morgan and Mitchell Forgash, played a great game. The Bandits will travel to Boyertown to participate in a weekend tournament. MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY TO HOLD RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT ele] | [TC T-10 Against Cance” @ The newly formed Misericordia University Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) student organization will hold a Relay for Life from 4 to10 p.m. on Sunday, May 2 at the university's Mangelsdorf Field in the Anderson Outdoor Athletic Complex. The mission of the newly formed CAC chapter is to spread awareness and help fight cancer in the greater community. The relay is open to the public. Team registration is $50 and proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Teams can reqgis- ter by calling 617-2108.
