OBITUARIES BOLGER - James Lewis Jr., for- merly of Dallas, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Glendale, Ariz. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory School and St. Fran- cis of Loretto College. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germa- ny and, upon discharge, took up a management career with Beech Nut Foods in upstate New York. He was recruited by Topps Chew- ing Gum as its chief purchasing executive and moved to the area in 1960. He was actively involved in Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Topps Management Golfing League. In 1993, he and his wife moved from their Midland Drive home in Dallas Township to the Towne Shores Condominium Develop- ment in Gulfport, Fla. There he became involved in the Master’s Board of Towne Shores, serving as controller for several years. Surviving are his daughters, Kathleen Watson, Glendale, Ariz.; and Brianne Beltz, Talla- hassee, Fla.; five grandchildren. DANTE - Marlene Kieran, 79, of Old Carverton Road, Trucks- ville, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at her home after a battle with cancer. Born Jan. 28, 1931 in Wilkes- Barre, she was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School and Wilkes- Barre Business College. Prior to marriage, she was an operator for Bell Telephone Co. After raising her family, she re- turned to work at RCA in Moun- tain Top and Valley Crest and Heritage House Nursing Homes before retiring. She was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association Ladies Auxiliary, Toms River and of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Lakewood, N.J. She and her husband, Stephen R. Krupinski, were world travel- ers, visiting every continent and many countries, including Egypt, Australia, China, Germany and Switzerland. MCGROARTY - Sister Mau- reen RSM, of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Sisters of Mer- cy, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Dallas. The former Catherine Mary McGroarty, she was born in Me- riden, Conn., on Dec. 16,1917 and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains Township. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1954 from Miser- icordia University and a master’s degree in education in 1965 from Fordham University, New York. She entered the Sisters of Mercy at Dallas on Feb. 2, 1937 and pro- fessed her vows on Aug. 16, 1939. Many years of her religious life were spent in the ministry of edu- cation. For 34 years, Sister Mau- reen ministered as a teacher and principal. She taught in Wilkes- Barre, New Philadelphia, Haw- ley, Towanda and Dallas. Sister Maureen also taught in Catholic elementary schools in Bayside, Flushing, Great Neck and Baby- lon, N.Y. Sister Maureen ministered as the first patient greeter at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, from 1972 to 1994. She had been a resi- dent at Mercy Center since Feb. of 1994. She was a member of the Nox- en United Methodist Church and its Women’s Society and Helping Hand Club and the Tunkhannock Senior Citizens. She was extremely active in the Tunkhannock area, serving as past president of the Tunkhan- nock Booster Club, Little League Mothers, Football Mothers Asso- ciation and Home Room Mothers Association. She served as chair- man of the annual ball for Tyler Memorial Hospital. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and area chairman for the Wyoming County Fund. ZAPOTICKY - Kathleen, 78, of Dallas, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Hospice Care of the VNA at the Heri- tage House, Wilkes-Barre, af- ter a 22 year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 4, 1932, she attended Luzerne High School. She was formerly employed as a waitress at the Piedmont Inn, Pocono Downs Race Track and later as a banquet manager at the Master Host Inn and the Hotel Sterling. She was the top banquet sales manager for 10 years at the Master Host Inn. Prior to her retirement, she served as director of the Se- nior Citizens Center in King- ston and later at the Senior Ci- tizens Center in Pittston. Osterhout seeks oldest library member The Osterhout Free Library, 71 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, is looking for the oldest Lu- zerne County Library System cardholder to help cut the rib- bon at the grand opening of the “Classic Corner” from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 11. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m., followed by entertainment and refresh- ments. The “Classic Corner” will en- hance services and programs for older adults within the library. A section of the library’s first floor has been transformed into a senior gathering space de cated to material and techn ogy suitable for older adults. Senior specific literature will be housed in the space. Com- fortable chairs will be available- for reading or quiet socializing. The Senior Space Project has been partially funded with fed- eral Library Services and Tech- nology Act funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
