The annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game at Lake-Lehman High School Monday night not only bene- fitted the American Cancer Society but saw the Lady Black Knights register a 76- 40 victory over GAR. ~ The game, which was the ‘senior completion project of Lake-Lehman senior Lottie Chipego, found coaches wear- ing sneakers and members of the Lake-Lehman team wear- ing “We Dare You” t-shirts during pre-game exercises. All five starters scored and Jus- tin Fell poured in 10 points. Mi- chael Anderson had eight points and Conner Maloney dished in four points in the victory. Matt Dillon and Dalton Simp- son combined for the Fieldhouse Sporting Goods Hornets’ 13 points. Ben O’Connell put in six points while David Smith and Christian Motley put in four points apiece. The defense had great effort from Nick Adams and Jare Polit-Moran. Josh Lydon and Bernie Frantz controlled the rebounding while Rusty Coolbaugh and Joey Chacke played aggressive de- fense. Gattuso Group 21 Burger King Suns 13 The Gattuso Group Inc. Spurs defeated the Burger King Suns in a hard-fought defensive battle, 21- 13. The Gattuso Group scoring was a team effort with Alex Ka- pral, Jack Ziemba, Cole Wyffels, Ww Justin Finerelli and Mason Gattu- so all contributing to the scoring. The defense and rebounding was led by Steven Finerelli, Nate Ma- ransky and Parker DalSanto. The Burger King Suns played their best game of the year; how- ever, not enough baskets fell for a win. Scoring leaders were Nick Matcho and Chris Carver. Strong defense was played by Daniel Ho- dle and Lane Hale. Quad Three Group 20 Apollo Group 16 The Quad Three Group Celtics defeated the Apollo Group Knicks, 20-16. Matt Mathers led the Celtic of- fense with 10 points and Chris Hadsall added four points. Also scoring for the Celtics were Josh Holdredge, Caleb Sweitzer and Zach Strazdus each with a bas- ket. Anchoring the Celtic defense were Zach Miller, Elijah Chester and John Betzko. The Apollo Group Knicks were led by Derek Answini 11 points and Ethan Zawatski with five points. Josh Wyandt, Darren Ker- desky and Ryan Kostelnick hus- tled on defense. 5th & 6th GRADE BOYS Thirty-One Lake Street 29 Belrick Corp. 19 David Simpson scored 11 i. points and Jack Tomko added eight as the Magic from Thirty- One Lake Street defeated the Spurs from Belrick Corp., 29-19. Jacob Stritzinger added four points for the Magic while the Spurs were led by Ray Ostroski with seven points. Connor Maca- rty and Frank Weaver added two points each. Deluca Law 20 Thompson Trucking 12 Nico DeLuca scored seven points and Adam Niznik and An- thony DeLuca added four points each to lead the DeLuca Law Of- fice Bulls to a 20-12 win over the Thompson Trucking Raptors. Kyle Archer and Joey Bevevino combined for 10 points for the Di- nosaurs while Abdul Almeky added two points and Joey Thompson controlled the boards. 5th & 6TH GRADE GIRLS Geibs Sheetrocking 24 Smith Insurance 20 Caroline Banas scored 14 points to lead the Geibs Shee- trocking Sky over the Smith In- surance Group Storm, 24-20. Katie Snedecker led the scor- ing for the Storm with 10 points. Danielle Walsh and Maddy Good- win both added four points to the Sky final score while Miranda Roche and Madison Crawford each added two to the Storm final score. Courtney Devens led the rebounding for the Storm. Bendick Law 31 McCabe Mortgage 17 Five players scored points for the Bendick Law Office Liberty to give them a 31-17 win over the McCabe Mortgage Group Shock. Brielle Brace led the scoring for the Liberty with 15 points while Leah Gorr added three. Alyssa Parente scored her first points of the season and Carly Clemente played another great game. Shock scoring was done by Abby McCabe with four and Jes- sie Stuart with two. Maddy Evans had four rebounds and two steals for the Shock. UPS Store 31 Amory Medical 24 Megan Meyer scored her first two points of the season to help the UPS Store Sun defeat the Amory Medical Sparks, 31-24. Breianna Coolbaugh added two points to the Sun score and led the team in rebounding. Courtney Hoats led the Sparks scoring with 12 points while Ma- dison Kaminski and Rachel Hea- ley both added four. Megan Miller and Alexis Wyandt led the Sun defense while Anna Lehane pulled down rebounds for the Sparks. SPORTS BRIEFS Rock Rec Center schedules cage tryouts The Rock Recreation Center, 340 Carverton Rd., will hold try-outs for the spring 2010 Rock Solid AAU travel basketball teams. Try-out date for boys is today, Jan. 17. Times are 2 to 4 p.m. for ages 14 and 15 and 4 to 6 p.m. for ages 12 and 13.
