LL Seniors raise money for Blue Cho Every year, seniors at Lake- Lehman High School must do a senior project to com- plete graduation require- ments. Community service and/or fundraising projects can be done for the senior project. Three members of the Lake-Lehman Class of 2010 decided to help a local orga- nization. The girls, Devon Boyle, Elizabeth Brooks and Ashley Blazaskie, went above their required volun- teer hours and volunteered more than 50 hours to help Blue Chip Farms Animal Res- cue. The girls spent their sum- mer hours helping the shel- ter with the animals that stay at the shelter awaiting adop- tion. Some of them aren’t wanted. Others were given up because their owners can no longer care for them and a few never even had a home to begin with. But the animals at Blue Chip Farms Animal Rescue on Lockville Road in Center- moreland are the lucky ones. Blue Chip is a no-kill shelter that keeps animals indefi- nitely or until they are adopt- ed into good homes. “It really didn’t feel like work,” Boyle said. “The hours go by so quickly when you are spending it with ani- mals that you fall in love it. I felt very happy when an ani- mal was adopted, but was sad because I would miss it.” The girls not only complet- ed their volunteer hours but held a contest between stu- dents in the sixth-grade classes at Lehman-Jackson Elementary School. The classes earned points based on the amount of items do- nated for the shelter with each sixth-grade class com- peting for high points. The winner received a pizza party from the senior girls. Mrs. Johnson's sixth-grade class won the contest and re- ceived the party. The other classes were treated to baked goods as a thank you for all their donations and their par- ticipation in the contest. Puzzles, Page 2 . —— Go Figure!
