Phil wants to share has letters with readers of The Dallas Post. Well, the desert is definitely an interesting place. Through most of September, it stayed hot. It would get over 120 degrees by around 2 p.m. and would still be around 100 degrees at midnight most nights. Now, however, it gets to be around 90-100 degrees during the day and 37 degrees is the coldest I've seen myself at night. It’s usu- ally around 40-45 degrees during the night, though. We've had a lot of stuff going on out here recently. A lot of the stuff is really good, but we have also had some tragedies out here. I'm sure you heard about the recent helicopter accidents out here and while we are blessed that it wasn’t our squadron it’s sad to say that it was the squadron next to us that had the helicopters that collided while flying. We are definitely looking for- ward to getting out of here in the near future. I actually don’t think there is anything that I need. I can’t thank you and the family enough for all of the stuff you have sent. It’s so nice to get things from home and the people that you love. Actual- ly, they are stopping any mail sent after the 1st of November so we are pretty much at the point that even if we did want some- thing sent to us, we couldn’t get it. I can’t wait to be back in Dallas and see all the changes that are going on and, even though it’s go- ing to be cold, rainy and snow (all things that I am not used to, espe- cially the precipitation), I can’t wait to see everyone that I miss so much. Well, it’s time to get back to work. Thank you for everything. Love, Phil Phil Walter competes com- petes in a race in the desert. Wednesday prior to publication. verification.
