Pumpkin carving contest set for Oct. 25 The Jackson Township Police Department and the Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will sponsor their Fifth Annual Pumpkin Carving and Coloring Contest and Emergency Ser- vices Day from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Jackson Township Recreation Park and Pavilion at the Jackson Town- ship Municipal Building at 2211 Huntsville Rd. There will be food, games and emergency services equipment on display. There will also be a hayride in the park and General Jackson’s World Famous Chili. Pumpkin carving and coloring awards will be held at 3:30 p.m. Bus trip benefits breast cancer research A one-day bus trip to New York City will be held on Sat- urday, Nov. 21, to raise money for breast cancer research. The bus will depart from Wegman’s in Wilkes Barre at 7:30 a.m. and will leave New York around 7:30 p.m.. Partici- pants will be free to schedule and arrange their own activities for that day. Tickets are$30. A fundraising auction will be held on the bus enroute to the city. All monies raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund. For more than 25 years, the Susquehanna River has been a source of fascination and inspi- ration to Pennsylvania artist Sue Hand. Recently, she began to create a body of artwork ded- icated to showcasing the Sus- quehanna River, its neighboring land forms, related structures, and historical highlights. Each Saturday for the sum- mers of 2008 and 2009, Hand was joined by Davidson and Adams on the Susquehanna Riv- er along with their river guide, Dave Davidson. They canoed down the river and stopped at islands along the way to capture the beauty of the Susquehanna.
