Sa, — LES Back Mountain Area Attorney Serves as Co-Chair on Courthouse Centennial Committee for Sensational Celebration Attorney Joseph Paul Justice Burke III, a resident of the Back Mountain and the Chief of the Law Library at the County Court House has been serving on the Courthouse Centennial Committee that is responsible for planning the once in a lifetime celebration of the Luzerne County Court House’s 100” Anniversary. As the Court House has no professional in-house archivist or county historian, the Law Librarian-in-Chief joins former County Engineer James Brozena and Luzerne County Historical Society Executive Director Anthony T.P. Brooks to provide historical background on the building and details of the completion of the fourth Court House in 1909. On the Committee, Atty. Burke is serving as the Co-Chair of the Rededication Ceremony being planned as one of three Centennial events to which the public is invited. On Friday, September 25th at 11:00 a.m. a Rededication Ceremony will be held in the Court House Rotunda. Associate Justice Max Baer of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania will be the Keynote Speaker and the Guest of Honor. A reception will follow. The public is asked to e-mail joseph.burke @luzernecounty.org as space is limited. The event is being sponsored by the County Bar Assn. On the evening of Saturday, September 26th, a Gala is planned to take place at the Court House. It will begin with an elegant reception in the Rotunda starting at 6:00 p.m. Dinner and dancing will follow at 7:30 p.m. on the North Lawn. Anthony T.P. Brooks is the Chair for this event. For persons interested in attending, a printed invitation can be secured by calling the Luzerne County Historical Society at 823-6244 (invitations are available while the limited stock lasts). Ticket price is $65 per person for this black tie optional event. Proceeds will be contributed to the Courthouse Renovation Fund of the Luzerne Foundation. The event is being underwritten by corporate and individual sponsors. Finally, a Courthouse Centennial Race Judicata SK Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, September 27th at 9:00 a.m. on the River Common. Registration and Check-in that morning for Race participants will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Entry fee is $12 prior to September 18™ and $15 thereafter.
