Born in Chase, he was a gradu- ate of Lehman High School and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed by Air Prod- ucts, Hanover Township, for 38 years, retiring as an inspector. He was a member of Trucks- ville United Methodist Church, Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas; the National Ri- fle Association and the North American Hunting Club, Minne- sota. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Alma Gilbert Brown; chil- dren, Linda Mazur Weisenberger, Mountain Top; Shirley June Swan, Arrowhead Lake; Gary Jay, Mountain Top; Leslie Darryl, Jackson Township; nine grand- children and seven great-grand- children. BURKHARDT - John V,, of Sweet Valley, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 at home. Born on February 14, 1948 in Hampstead, N.Y., he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed by the V.A. Medical Center, Plains Township, and prior to his retirement, worked for the Feder- al Aviation Administration, Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. Surviving are his wife, Mau- reen Stehle; daughter, Veronica Noone, Joppa, Md.; son, David, Pittston; stepchildren, Michelle Lee, Discovery Bay, Calif.; Robert Stehle, Wilkes-Barre; four grand- children; brothers, William, Law- rence and Richard Burkhardt; sis- ters, Barbara Adams and Patricia Burkhardt. DAVIS - Alfred T., of Dallas, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at his home. Born on July 29, 1939 in Wilkes-Barre, he attended Gate of Heaven School in Dallas. A professional truck driver for more than 40 years, he was also the shop steward of his union. He served for eight years in the 109th National Guard Field Artillery, Kingston. Surviving are his wife, Betty M. Davis, of Dallas; daughters, Cynthia Boyd, of Sweet Valley; Susan Williams and Candy Cum- mings, both of Dallas; three grandchildren; sisters, Shirley McDonald, of Dallas; Betty West- erburg, of Virginia; many nieces and nephews. Born on September 7, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a retired banking associate. Surviving are her husband of over 60 years, Herbert M.; daugh- ters, Linda Leppig, of Chester; and Marion Borges, of Toms Riv- er, N.J.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Born on February 4, 1918 in Ey- non, she was former beautician. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose, the Trinity Presbyter- ian Church in Dallas and their Women’s Group. Surviving are her children, Kay Stevens, of North Richland Hills, Texas; Patricia, of Grandview, Mo.; Randolph, of Stockbridge, Ga.; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; sisters, Florence Zahora, Viola Hall and Fran Bajkowski; brother, Frank Bajkowski; nieces and nephews. She donated her body to Hu- manity Gifts Registry for medical research and will be the first do- nor for the newly-opened medi- cal research hospital in Scranton. LAITY - Lenore Alma (Dutch- ie), 72, of Tunkhannock, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Geisinger Medical Center, Dan- ville. Born on August 2, 1937, she graduated from Kingston High School, Class of 1955. She resid- ed in Edwardsville for 26 years, moving to Tunkhannock in 1983. She was a member of the East- ern Star Lodge, Kingston. She and her husband owned and op- erated several businesses, includ- ing LL Trucking and a private courier service. She was most re- cently employed by URS as a li- censed technician for PennDOT Drivers License Center where she received an achievement award from PIBH for outstanding character and personal work eth- ics. Surviving is her husband of 52 years, James R.; daughter, Barba- ra Jeffreys; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. NOWAKOWSKI - Joseph, 85, formerly of Centermoreland, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Edwardsville, he was an Army veteran of World War II and was employed as a long-dis- tance truck driver for many years. Surviving are his sisters, Sister M. Jacqueline, Reading; and Irene Scholl, Edwardsville; sever- al nieces and nephews. WATTS - Andrew Michael, 20, of Dallas, formerly of Conklin, NY. died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at home. Born on June 23, 1989 in Bing- hamton, N.Y., he lived a coura- geous battle with Cystic Fibrosis, a challenge he met head on with no fear. His death was a result of this battle, complications from the double lung transplant he un- derwent in May 2008. He was a graduate of the Dallas High School, Class of 2008, where he received his diploma three weeks after undergoing a double lung transplant. Survivors include his aunt and guardian, Melinda Watts, of Dal- las; dad, Robert Barrett Jr., of Conklin, N.Y.; brothers, Steven Pierson Jr. and Scott Pierson, both of Wilkes-Barre; Craig Bar- rett, of Kirkwood, N.Y.; grand- mothers, Dawn Watts, of Snow Camp, N.C.; Lorraine Barrett, of Conklin, N.Y.; aunts, uncles and a nephew.
