Mini-football camp planned at Dallas HS A mini-football camp focusing on drills and fundamentals will be held July 13, 14 and 15 at the Dallas High School football field. Jr. Mounts plan golf tournament Dallas Jr. Mounts Second Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 25, at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. BMPA Golf Tournament benefits trooper fund The Back Mountain Police Associ- ation will hold a golf tournament on Friday, July 31, at the Sand Springs Golf Club in Drums. The Captain and Crew format will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. In addi- tion to prizes, awards will be given to winners of first three flights. There will be separate prizes for closest to pin, longest drive (male/female), most straight drive. A hole-in-one prize of a trip to Orlanda, Fla. will be available. Cost of $80 includes greens fees, cart, goodie bag, skins game, dinner and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Trooper Joshua D. Miller Memorial Fund. The camps run Monday to Friday with two sessions for each age group. Middle School Pool open to public Afternoon Public Family Swim and Lap Swim are available for residents of the Dallas School District at the Dallas Middle School Pool from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sundays through August 7. All swimmers must provide identifica- tion and those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $2 per swimmer. Selenski ‘named to USA team Paige Selenski has been named to the USA Field Hockey 2009- 2010 Women’s Developmental Team. Selenski, 19, of Shavertown, is a forward and mid-fielder on thegl™ field hockey team at the Universi- ty of Virginia where she is enter- ing her sophomore year. Selenski started every game and scored 19 goals last fall during her first col- lege season and was also one of the top-scoring college field hockey players in the nation. Selenski was also named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference ~ (ACC) Field Hockey Freshman of the Year. She is only the third player in the history of the Uni- versity of Virginia to receive the prestigious ACC title. The 2008 Dallas High School graduate was a member of the La- dy Mountaineers field hockey team from seventh through 12th grades. While a freshman at Dallas, Se- lenski was selected as a member of the USA Field Hockey Wom- en’s Under-16 Squad. She played in Holland twice on the Ul6 team. In her junior year of high school, Selenski moved up to the U21 team. Since then, she has played in China, Argentina and Mexico and will travel to Austra- lia with the team this month. Selenski is the daughter of Brian Selenski and the late Judy Selenski. PSU/WB ° alumni plan golf event The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society will sponsor its 14th Annual “Masters” Golf Tournament on Friday, July 17, at Blue Ridge Golf Club in Mountaintop. The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Alumni Society’s Scholarship Fund, the Student Mentor Program, Aca- demic Excellence Awards and other initiatives which benefit Penn State Wilkes-Barre stu- dents. The rain or shine event will be a “Captain and Crew” format with four golfers per team and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. In addition to a game of golf, lunch and refreshments during the day and a banquet after, go fers will have the chance to wi numerous prizes, including an automobile from Ken Pollock, a two-night stay at Genetti’s in Wilkes-Barre or Williamsport, round trip airline tickets, golf re- sort vacation and golf clubs. Last year’s tournament raised more than $7,000 to support programs for the students.
