i Sunday, June 28, 2009 THE DALLAS POST PAGE 3 LAKE TOWNSHIP Grader on order; resurfacing By EILEEN GODIN Dallas Post Correspondent Because a good grader plays a very important role in a small township with a lot of dirt roads, awarding bids for a new- er road grader and work to North Mountain Road took top billing at the supervisors’ meet- ing. Lonnie Piatt said the grader is used to smooth out the sur- face of the township’s many dirt roads as well as aid in snow removal. Three sealed bids to replace the 1972 Gallon road grader were opened during the town- ship meeting. Two bids from Bradco Supply Company, To- wanda, offered a 1990 John Deere 772BH for $50,000 or a 1989 John Deere 670B for $35,000. Both prices included a $5,000 trade-in value on the old grader. . Casterline Diesel, Sweet Val- 672B for $36,500 with a $5,000 trade-in and was awarded the bid. Piatt said this machine has all-wheel drive for winter use and articulate steering which would allow the road crew to get closer to the sides of the dirt roads. Resurfacing work to North Mountain Road was the next hurdle supervisors faced. Sealed bids were received from Slusser Brothers, Pittston, for $28, 975; American As- phalt, Shavertown, for $30,277.50; Pikes Creek Site Contractors, Hunlock Creek, for $29,302; and Barletta Con- struction, Hazleton, for $35,924. The bid was awarded to Slusser Brothers and, as soon as the ink dries on the con- tracts, work will begin on North Mountain Road. In other news ... e Supervisors unanimously adopted a motion to oppose JM roads scheduled to begin tax credits. Supervisor Amy Sa- lansky said in the past the earned income tax credits were attributed to the municipality in which a person resides. With the new proposed law, the funds from the consolidation of the earned income taxes would go to the county and then be dispersed. e A letter has been com- posed and will be sent to all residents regarding the proper procedures of burning house- hold waste. Supervisors are hoping it will clarify confusion as to when and what residents are allowed to burn. ¢ Information on burning will be posted on the town- ship’s website, www.laketwplu- zerne.com. eo New office hours for the township secretary are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. e The next Lake Township meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the mu- opportunities for all high school juniors, senior-and ju- nior college students interested in pursuing music at the four- year university.
