The Bandits came out strong with use of their middies, Stone Mannello, RJ Driscoll, Ricky Morgan, Corey Metz, David Nape, Duncan Breig, Ian Evans and Justin Phillips. The Clippers scored first in the opening quarter but the Bandits answered back with a goal by Dy- lan Hakim. Great defense played by Connor Switzer, Owen Mor- gan, Noah Mirro, AJ Spears, Xa- vier Barber and Goalie Michael Golden kept the score tied at 1-1 at halftime. Early in the second half, Keith Gilette scored for the Bandits. Great offensive efforts by Luke Yaple, Connor Duffy and Ryan Cohen assisted Corey Metz in scoring late in the third quarter. The Clippers answered back, scoring three goals. Early in the fourth quarter, Duncan Brieg scored for the Ban- dit, tying the score at 4-all. Then, with just minutes remaining in the game, Keith Gillette scored to of the season. The camps are open to boys and girls pre-k through sixth grade and run Monday through Fri- day with two sessions for each age group. LADY TAR HEELS WIN TOURNAMENT The U10 Rock Solid Tar Heels girls basketball team recently went undefeated and took first- place honors in a tournament hosted in Bath. The Rock Solid Tar Heels UIO team is an AAU- membership team made up of fourth and fifth-grade girls who compete at their headquarters at the Rock Recreation Center on Carverton Road in Shavertown. A senior at Dallas High School and a level 9 gymnast, Popple won first place on the floor exer- cise with a score of 9.2. She also took third on vault (9.2) and fifth overall with a score of 35.75 in the 18-year-old age group. With her performance, she ad- vanced to the 2009 Junior Olym- pics/Nationals and was named to the National / Junior Olympic Team. The competition will take place in Mississippi on May 10.
