SPORTS BRIEF LEGION PLANS GOLF TOURNAMENT Jonathan Ferris is gymnastics champ Jonathan Ferris, of Dallas, recently became the 2009 paral- lel bar New York state gymnas- tics champion for ages 10 through 11 and placed fifth all around in the state. Ferris competed in the Boys Level 6 category of the New York State Gymnastics Cham- pionships on March 15 at the State University of New York in Brockport, N.Y. A sixth-grader at Dallas Mid- dle School, Ferris was first in- troduced to gymnastics at the age of 2 when his mother en- rolled the two in a “Mommy and Me” gymnastics class at North- east Gymnastics in Wilkes-Barre. Because there are no compet- itive gymnastics gyms for boys in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Ferris’ parents, Frank and Mela- nie Ferris, drive him to Che- nango Gymnastics in Bingham- ton, N.Y., making the trip three or four times a week. a —— TE eA OP EN SANA 7 Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672 Dallas will sponsor its annual golf tour- nament at Stone Hedge Golf Course at 1:30 p.m. on Satur- day, June 6. The format is Captain and Crew. This tour- nament supports the post's scholarship foundation which awards $1,000 scholarships to students in the Back Mountain area.
