PAGE 10 Tue DALLAS POST SUNDAY, APRIL 12, 2009 Sports DYB 8th grade all-stars orab March tournament The Dallas Youth Basketball (DYB) 8th Grade Boys All- Stars recently captured the March Madness Basketball Tournament at Wyoming Area Catholic. In a closely-contested first game, Dallas defeated St Jude’s, 49-42, behind the out- side scoring of John Murray with 23 points (including five 3-pointers) and inside game of Brian Stepniak with 12 points. In the second game, Dallas defeated Holy Rosary, 53-18. Greg Petorak led a balanced attack with 11 points followed by Jason Simonovich with 10 points, Felix Doleman with eight points and Danny Saba with seven points. In the championship game, Dallas defeated Wyoming Area Catholic, 56- 29, behind a strong defen- sive team effort. SF Bandits return Despite gallant effort, Back Mountain lacrosse team comes home from Easton with 7-3 defeat at hands of Palmer. The Back Mountain Bandits lacrosse team traveled to Easton to play the Palmer Team last Sunday and, despite some strong play, came home with a 7-3 defeat. The Bandits came out strong with great offense played by Ryan Cohen, Noah Mirro, Luke Yaple and Connor Duffy. In the first quarter, Palmer scored three goals but the Bandits answered with a goal by Michael Golden. The Bandits’ three sets of middies, Ricky Morgan, Stone Mannello, RJ Driscoll, Dun- can Brieg, Adam Adelman, Michael Santora, David Nape and Michael Golden were competitive throughout the game. Bandit goalie Keith Gilette held Palmer to four goals in the first half. During the third quarter, great defense was played by Connor Switzer, AJ Spears, Ian Evans, Cory Metz and Ryan Parente. Ricky Morgan scored goals in the third and fourth quarter for the Bandits. Owen Morgan did a tremen- dous job in goal for the first time during the fourth quar- ter. SPORTS BRIEFS Girls soccer team conducting tryouts USTA Strikers U-11 girls soccer team is currently conducting tryouts for play- ers looking to play in the 2009 spring and fall travel league seasons. Premiere level training from a profes- sional and licensed coaching staff is offered with a strong emphasis on individ- ual player development. Participants born after August 1, 1997 are eligible to try out. Registration fees will be waived for players who are chosen from the tryout sessions.
