The former Mary Grace Coll, she was born July 12, 1925 in McAdoo. A graduate of St. Ga- briel High School, Hazleton, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Misericordia University. She entered the Sisters of Mer- cy in 1944 and professed her reli- gious vows in 1947. Sister Do- lores taught in the primary grades in the dioceses of Scran- ton, New York and Harrisburg. She retired to the prayer ministry at Mercy Center in 1999. Surviving are a cousin, Mrs. Miriam Jamelli, Hazleton; and the Sisters of Mercy of the Mid- _ Atlantic Community. Born Nov. 5, 1917 in Canada, she was a lifelong resident of Dal- las for other than a few years while working in Texas. She was a graduate of Wyom- ing Seminary, Class of 1935, where she was nominated to the Hall of Fame for her skills and sportsmanship while on the field hockey team and was a graduate of Skidmore University, where she received her B.A. degree in Sociology. She served as alumna trustee at Seminary, was presi: dent of the Wyoming Seminary Alumni Association and was hon- ored with the Distinguished Ser- vice Award. She was also an ac- tive volunteer with the Luzerne County Historical Society annual auction. She began her business career as a travel agent with the First Eastern Bank Travel Department and worked for many years with the AAA of South Wilkes-Barre until her retirement in her early 70s. JOHNSON - Patricia “Tish” Jean, of King George, Va., former- ly of Tunkhannock, died Satur- day, Feb. 14, 2009. Born on Dec. 23, 1953 in Ly- manville, she was a 1971 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and attended Barrington College, Rhode Island, receiving a BS de- gree in Spanish in 1975. She received her Masters in Business Administration from The University of Phoenix in 2008. As a college student, she went on mission trips to Alaska and Honduras. In more recent years, she participated in two mission trips to China, teaching English as a Second Language. As a result of her volunteer work with the Boy Scouts, she was one of only 23 in the United States to receive the Silver Beaver Award last year. She was employed by URS, EG&G Division, Stafford, Va. She was a part of the MRAP Cougar Support Team and was a bi-lin- gual school teacher for many years before working for the gov- ernment.
