She has pursued the hobby of genealogy for the past decade. Born in Philadelphia, Slaby was raised in Schuylkill County and currently lives in Dallas with her husband, John. They are parents of two grown chil- dren, Melissa and John Garrett, who is the cover illustrator of “Call Me Kate.” Digging into the past has giv- en Slaby newfound respect for her ancestors and a better under- standing of history. “Call Me Kate” is the first in the author’s trilogy of historical novels loos- ely based on the lives of strong women who preceded her.
