He served stateside in the U.S. Army during World War II, then worked for more than two decades each at the Endicott- Johnson Shoe Factory in Tunk- hannock and Procter & Gamble in Mehoopany. He served as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader. CROCKER - Carl L., 97, for- merly of Trucksville, died Satur- day, Jan. 10, 2009 in ManorCare Nursing Home, Camp Hill, Pa. Born in St. Johnsville, N.Y., on May 12, 1911, he graduated from St. Johnsville High School. Upon graduation, he started working for the Beech-Nut Life Savers Co. in Canajoharie, N.Y. He also played in a dance band and played semi-pro baseball. He retired as a district manager in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Af- ter that, he started Crocker Food Brokerage. He served as a PFC in the 470th Ordinance Evacuation Company in Central Europe dur- ing World War II and was also in the company band. He was a member of both the VFW and American Legion. Born March 25, 1922 in Nanti- coke, she attended Dallas schools and, prior to her retirement, had been employed by Loris Dress Factory, Falls. She was a choir member of Blessed Sacrament and St. Fran- cis Cabrini churches as well as a communicant of Blessed Sacra- ment Church. She had been ac- tive in the Falls Volunteer Ambu- lance and Fire Department. She was also an alternate for the Falls Senior Citizens Center and a RSVP for more than 15 years. She had served on the Wyoming County Board of Elec- tions and had received an award for 50 consecutive years of vot- ing. Born on the family farm in Me- hoopany on September 23, 1914, he was a graduate of Tunkhan- nock High School, Class of 1932, and worked and lived on his dairy farm for more than 62 years. He served as a school board director of the Mehoopany School Dis- trict and later as a board member of the Tunkhannock Area School District after their merger. He was a member of the Dairy- men’s League and Eastern Milk Producers and a director of the Tunkhannock GLF and Vaughn Cemetery Association. He at- tended the Mehoopany United Methodist Church. SPENCE - Vivienne E., 92, for- merly of Tunkhannock, died Fri- day, Jan. 9, 2009 at Wesley Vil- lage, Jenkins Township. : Born on August 18, 1916 in Twickenham, Middlesex, En- gland, she moved to London after graduating from St. Catherine’s Convent School and was employ- ed by Elizabeth Arden prior to the start of World War II. With the outbreak of the war, she be- came a decoder for the War De- partment and was injured during the blitz. Subsequent to the war, she re- located for a time to what was then the Belgian Congo, eventu- ally settling in Durban, South Africa, where she worked as an events coordinator in the public relations department of the Royal Dutch Shell Company for 20 years. Mrs. Spence emigrated to America in1974 and became a United States citizen in 1987. She was a member of the Tunkhan- nock United Methodist Church, The Wyoming County Historical Society and the Tunkhannock Women’s Club. She also served as a volunteer for many years at Tyl- er Memorial Hospital as a mem- ber of the auxiliary. Surviving are her brother, Ed- gerton Carleton-Walker, York- shire, England; four nephews and one niece; several great-nieces and great-nephews, all of En- gland. Born in Wilkes-Barre on Sep- tember 30, 1929, he was a 1947 graduate of Kingston High School and received his Bachelor of Education degree from Wilkes College in 1958. He received his master’s in secondary education from Penn State University in 1961.
