Born September 2, 1935 in Bal- timore, Md., he was a graduate of Iowa State University, where he had played football. He had been employed as a retail executive by Sears Roebuck Co., of Wilkes- Barre, for many years. Surviving is a daughter, Ste- phanie Bartelt, of Portland, Ore.; sons, Garret, of Rincon, Puerto Rico; and Christopher, of Colum- bia, S.C. CIGARSKI - Bernard C., 86, of Jackson Township, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Born on January 15, 1922 on the family farm in Chase, he spent most of his life farming. He was one of the original farmers for the Farmers Market on Public Square, Wilkes-Barre and the Pittston Farmers Market. He was also a staple at the Pittston Toma- to Festival. ‘He was a graduate of Rome School in Jackson Township and a member of IBEW Local, 1319 Electrical Union. He was a for- mer member of the Gate of Heav- en Church in Dallas. Surviving are his daughters, Charlotte Sims, Larksville; Theresa Chambers, Lake Worth Fla.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many niec- es and nephews. FLETCHER-SaundraE., 71, of Carpenter Road, Harveys Lake, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. Born in Wilkes-Barre on De- cember 6, 1936, she graduated from Kingston High School and attended Wilkes Business Col- lege. After college, she was em- ployed by Bergman’s Depart- ment Store. Saundra had resided at Har- veys Lake since 1990. Previously, she had resided in Easton for 29 years and had been employed as a teacher’s aide for the Easton Area School District. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the 3512th Medium Automotive Maintenance Company attached to the 1st Army Division. He had been self-employed for many years at Clark’s Service Station on Division Street, Kingston, and later had been employed by the Roth American Corporation as a watchman and in production. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Beatrice Roberts; daughters, Beatrice Ann Lowe, Georgia; Wendy E. Gwynn, Kingston; four grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. SHAVER-LilaH., 76, of Dallas, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008. Born June 17, 1932 in Dallas, she was a member of the Living Word Baptist Church, Sweet Val- ley. She attended school in Dallas and was employed by Nedoff’s Restaurant, Wilkes-Barre, for many years, Valley Crest Nursing Home, Cross Nursing Home and Sweet Valley Christian Academy before retiring. Surviving are a sister, Norma Allabaugh, Dallas; aunts, nieces and nephews. SHAW - Charles E., 75, of Ole Coach Lane, Tunkhannock, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. Born in Tunkhannock, he was amember of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Tunkhannock, and had served on many of its boards. He was a retired teacher and coach from Tunkhannock Area High School. A 1951 graduate of Tunk- hannock High School, he re- ceived his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1955 and his master’s degree from the University of Scranton in 1962. He served with the Unit- ed States Marines. During his high school years, he was an all scholastic in foot- ball, baseball and basketball and won the District 12 gold medal in the 440 and 880 in track. He also lettered with the Tiger volleyball team. He was a captain of the first undefeated, untied Tiger football team in 1950. While at East Stroudsburg University, he let- tered in football, wrestling and baseball. He served TAHS for 40 years as a physical education teacher and athletic director. He coached football for 20 years, baseball for 15 years, wrestling for seven years and swimming for five years. He coached baseball teams to five district championships and is the No. 2 football coach with the most wins in school history. He served as PIAA official and played softball, baseball and bas- ketball in many amateur leagues. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Dorothy Wise; sons, Randy, Mike, Hunter, Robert and Freder- ick; daughters, Marsha, Susan and Ericka; sisters, Ruth Davis, Mary Tripp and Jean Loomis; a brother, Edward; 16 grandchil- dren; one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Born July 17, 1956 in Kingston and raised in Dallas, he was a graduate of Dallas High School, Class of 1974, and attended Penn State University. He graduated from Wilkes University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science de- gree in electrical engineering. He began his career at Com- monwealth Telephone Company, later moving to Connecticut to Times Fiber Communications where he was awarded the Merit of Excellence in National Ac- counts Sales. He was currently employed by Motorola as an ac- count director. Surviving is his father, John Sr., Ocala, Fla.; his wife, JoEllen; daughters, Madison and Rylee, at home; Connecticut; sisters, Su- san Simons-Williams, Forty Fort; Gail Wyberski, Dallas; an aunt, one niece, two nephews, a great nephew and numerous cousins. SMITH - William E., 81, of Hunlock Creek, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. Born in Breslau on June 7, 1927, he graduated from Lehman High School in 1945. He served in the Army from August 17, 1945 until his honorable discharge on January 28, 1947. He was a T4 Sergeant in the Western Bay Sec- tion, Staff Message Control, SCHAEF Division. He was sta- tioned in Paris, France — Broken Chain of Communication. His ba- sic training took place at Camp Blanding, Florida, and his dis- charge location was Fort Dix, N.J. Until his retirement in 1989, he was employed at Russ Major’s Sales and Service as a mechanic for 27 years. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Wendy Moore, of Red Rock; brothers, Robert and Dar- win, both of Sweet Valley; and one grandson. SNARSKI - Jennifer Marie, of Sweet Valley, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. Born July 6, 1987 in Kingston, she was a 2005 graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes- Barre, and was in her fourth year at Bloomsburg University study- ing marketing and management.
