Born June 21, 1933 in Berwick, she was a member of Holy Name/St. Mary’s Parish Community, Swoyersville. Surviving are her sisters, Stella Yuska, Ohio; Frances owalchick, Swoyersville; Qi Frank, Plains ownship; Michael, Swoyersville; Daniel, New Jersey; several nieces, and nephews. SAMPSON - Martha Fray Sampson, 80, of Tunkhan- nock, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. Born May 4, 1928, she was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and Kutztown University, earn- ing her masters in fine arts degree from Marywood University in 1988. She’ taught in several pub- lic schools in Northeastern Pennsylvania and at a private school in Florida. Later, she taught at Marywood Universi- ty, The University of Scran- ton, Penn State Scranton and recently at the Endless Moun- tains Council of the Arts in Tunkhannock, of which she was the founder and first president. Surviving are her sisters, Mary Sponaugle, Clarks Sum- mit; and Nancy Rossbacker, Florida; sons, Robert, Noxen; David, White Haven; and John, Tunkhannock; four grandchildren; one great- grandson; and several nieces. Born in Saegertown, Pa. on January 9, 1926, she was a 1943 graduate of Saegertown High School and received a B.A. in education from Penn State University in 1948. She taught in the Warriors Mark School District in 1948-49 and was a substitute teacher in the Wellsboro School Dis- trict. Upon relocating to Tunk- hannock in 1968, she was also a substitute teacher in the Tunkhannock Area School District. She was a life mem- ber of the Eastern Star of Wellsboro, a member of the Tunkhannock United Metho- dist Church and the United Methodist Women where she served on various church committees. Surviving are her husband, Francis C.; son, Samuel C., Tunkhannock; daughter, Su- san Jean, Saegertown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He worked for Georgia Pacific, Pittston, as a production worker and was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shaver- town.
