ORGANIZED EVENT Winner: Dallas Harvest Festival Born through a visioning pro- gram that looked at the revitaliza- tion of Dallas Borough, the Dal- las Harvest Festival has been held six times, the first in 2003. The large block party that attracts be- tween 5,000 and 7,000 people an- nually to downtown Dallas was created to reinforce the connec- tion of the land and the communi- ty. The Dallas Harvest Festival is held on the second Sunday of September each year. During the early 1960s, Dymond began selling pro- duce at the farm and out of the back of a pickup truck on Memo- rial Highway at the site of the cur- rent farm market and bakery, which opened in 1983. “The girls, they do a good job with baking,” Fred “Ted” Dymond III says. “Our pies are our specialty.
