TRIBUTE Continued from Page 1 smaller pieces of the plane are still scattered about the woods. The children, now grown men, gave what they had left of the plane to the Majors. “They (Mark and Kara) ac- tually stood on the site where the plane crashed,” Ginny Major said. “The whole town came out to meet them. He (Mark) was treated royally.” ' Residents of Unterhausen also showed the Majors the site where they buried Culp, in the yard of Saint Pankratius Church. A Russian soldier was also later buried at the church, which is special to the Major family be- cause Gina and her husband, Bill Ackerman, have four adopted children from Russia. The sol- diers’ bodies were later ex- humed and taken to a military cemetery in France. Boback is seeking other pho- tos for her military tribute event. The public is asked to send co- pies of photos of their loved ones in military uniform to be used in the presentation. The photos should be scanned and e-mailed to csweeney@pahousegop.com. Our Great Humanitarian Eight years ago Rick Temarantz and two of his motorcycle pals heard about an 11-year-old cancer patient who needed help. Knowing what big hearts most bikers have, they organized a benefit ride, gathering plenty of volunteers along the way. They raised over $13,000 for the little girl and her family. Since those humble beginnings, Rick has been actively involved in organizing the annual ride and picnic, and the Valley With A Heart benefits have grown exponentially. Now the annual Labor Day event draws more than 800 people and to date has raised well over $100,000 to help seriously ill children in the Wyoming Valley. The group also donates toys to area hospitals and gives gas cards to families of kids who have to travel out of town for medical treatments. “These are a great group of people,” says Rick. “They understand you can’t just sit back and Congratulations!
