A “Classrooms for the Future” state grant was awarded to Lake- Lehman schools for the upcom- ing school year in the amount of $45,413. The grant allows state of the art technology to be placed in classrooms for educa- tional purposes. Jack Wega, whose salary is paid through the “Classrooms for the Future” grant, was reappointed as an in- structional peer coach for profes- sional staff members. The district budgeted $140,000 to buy electronic pro- jectors and white boards for 20 classrooms. Eleven classrooms already have the equipment pur- chased with money from last year’s “Classrooms for the Fu- ture” grant. Dallas plans to buy 600 more laptops for the high school with the $47,989 awarded from this year’s “Classrooms for the Future” grant money. William Gartell was voted by the school board to remain the director of technology through June 2011. The board also hired Rebecca Hyduk, high school biology teacher; Melissa Chrusch, elementary school li- brarian; Susan Timlin, special education teacher at Wycallis Elementary; Kristy Kropa, spe- cial education teacher at Dallas Elementary; Maria Bustin, spe- cial education teacher at the high school; Diana Alichnie, business, computer and informa- tion technology teacher at the high school; Kylie Rosengrant, middle school science teacher; Rachel McCue, Wycallis Ele- mentary teacher; Jennifer Swi- derski, Wycallis Elementary teacher; and Amy Shanahan, Wy- callis Elementary teacher. Gate of Heaven School is start- ing the year with new smart boards and projectors for every homeroom in grades kindergar- ten through eight. The equip- ment was purchased with funds produced from the school’s An- nual “Race for Education” that was held in the spring. About $20,000 was raised at the event. Enrollment in the preschool program has nearly doubled this year to 40 students. The increase was so big that a second pre- school program was added. The accelerated reading pro- gram was expanded to include students in grades one through eight. It previously only includ- ed students in grades three Back pain getting Pre-Fall Home through eight. The program is a reading incentive program that encourages students to read more. A new anti-bullying program has been put into place this year at Gate of Heaven. Teachers at- tended a special in-service on the program and will convey the information to students and t parents via a letter. Parents be required to sign the letter. Gate of Heaven also received diocesan-wide handbooks and faculty handbooks.
