The Fourth Annual Harveys Lake Homecoming brought both residents and non-residents of the borough together with all proceeds benefiting the Harveys Lake Beautification Project. The weekend's events were kicked off with a homecoming dance on Friday at the Harveys Lake American Legion. Lake resi- dents decorated their homes and boathouses in the spirit of the homecoming. Bill and Shirley Javer were announced as winners of that contest and received a $100 gift certificate from Villa Ro- ma restaurant. Official opening ceremonies were held on Saturday with May- or Richard Boice and members of the clergy participating. Kids’ Day, sponsored by Harveys Lake Fire and Ambulance, took place at Sandy Beach that afternoon where mazes, games, water sports and water wars were avail- able. A party with food and a DJ was held at Sandy Beach Satur- day night. Following a Sunday morning breakfast at the American Le- gion, borough children vied for the titles of Little Mr. and Miss Harveys Lake with Peyton Shaw and Shaughnessy Conrad com- ing away with those titles, respec- tively. The fireman’s parade was held at the old Lake-Noxen Elemen- tary School and the Fireman's Olympics -followed where fire- fighters competed against each other in a bucket brigade, tug-of- war and other activities. The Kiss the Fish contest wrap- ped up the weekend on Sunday with residents voting Emergency Management Agency Coordina- tor Charles West as the winner. Other contest winners includ- ed Rick Roberts, chili contest; and Matt Hopfer, pie-eating con- test. The Citizens/Group of the Year Award was presented to the Harveys Lake Protective Associ- ation.
