Sponsored by the Back Mountain Ministerium and organized in 1977, the pantry serves Dallas Borough, Dal- las Township, Harveys Lake, Lake Township, Hunlock Creek, Jackson Township, Kingston Township, Lehman Township, Noxen and Sweet Valley. The success of the food pantry, which is located at Trucksville United Metho- dist Church, is dependent up- on the support from the churches of the Ministerium, the Dallas Area and Lake Lehman School Districts, foundations, businesses, civ- ic and fraternal organiza- tions, service clubs, social groups, the scouts and many individuals. Find out what's in drinking water A comprehensive package of drinking water tests will be available to Harveys Lake resi- dents by Wilkes University to- gether with the Harveys Lake Environmental Advisory Council on July 12. A free fol- low-up Question & Answer session on water well systems will be offered on August 2. The cost of the testing pack- age this year is $75. The Wilkes University Water Qual- ity Laboratory will measure residents’ water for pH, con- ductivity, turbidity, total coli form, nitrate-nitrite, phos- phate, fecal coli form, fecal streptococcus, corrosively, hardness, iron, manganese and copper. Interested residents can pick up water sampling kits at the Harveys Lake Borough Building’s meeting room (8 am. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday) until July 12 and drop off their water sam- ples at the same place be- tween 10 a.m. and noon on In 2007, 41 volunteers per- formed more than 2,000 hours of service at the pantry. During the year, more than 22 tons of food were collect- ed and distributed to area families.
