The walls and halls of the Dallas Senior High School were so well decorated for the an- nual Senior Lock-In, it’s wasn’t hard to imagine what the islands of Hawaii ac- tually look and feel like. Members of the 2008 graduating class of Dallas High School were guests of honor at the event which keeps graduates inside — and out of harm’s way — the night of graduation. A graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School, Class of 1979, she received her Bachelor of Sci- ence Degree from Penn State "University in 1983, her Master’s Degree from the University of Scranton and her Ph.D. from Le- high University in 2003. She was a former journalist and had worked for the Scranton Tribune, Citizens Voice and Wyoming County New Age-Examiner. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1962, earned a Bachelor of Sci- ence degree in 1967 from the for- mer Wilkes College, Wilkes- Barre, and a doctorate of physics from Drexel University, Philadel- phia. He was a faculty member for more than 28 years serving in the Physics, Engineering, Mechani- cal Engineering Departments and, finally the Engineering and Physics Division of Wilkes Uni- versity. He was advisor to the Physics Club and Sigma-Pi-Sig- ma, the Physics Honor Society, from 1989 to the present. In the early 1990s, he was one of the or- ganizers of the Wilkes Universi- ty’s Core Studies Program. Surviving are his wife, Gaye C. Gustitus, D.O.; and a brother, John, of Beaumont. MURPHY - Charles “Tom” Sr., 75, of Noxen, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at home. Born in Wilkes-Barre on Au- gust 30, 1932, he attended the ‘Beaumont School and resided in Noxen for most of his life. He graduated in 1961 from West Side Vocational-Technical School. He served in Germany as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Ko- rean Conflict and stateside in the Army Reserve for six years. He was employed by PennDOT, Tunkhannock, for 34 years, retir- ing in 1994 and served as a Noxen Township supervisor.
