The bands that competed were selected after auditioning in February and included bands from Dallas, Mountain Top and as far away as Dunmore. Band members Bands battle’ for JSraduation funds wrote their own music, played typical in- struments but also played unusual ones such as a sitar. Every band was given 15 minutes to set up and 20 minutes to play for the crowd of approximately 500. Their music was en- hanced by the professional sound equip- ment from S & L Sound Systems. Bands were judged on their technique and con- trol of instruments, their performance, presentation and overall entertainment value. Second-place winners, Fridge Full of Popsicles of Dunmore sponsored by Cath- erine Delaney, won $100. The band’s name comes from the fact that its members al- ways have a popsicle break during their practices. After winning, Fridge Full of Popsicles passed out popsicles to the crowd. Third-place winners, Dragon Bear Fish Shaman from Crestwood High School and sponsored by Pioneer Abstract Co., won $50.
