He was a Navy veteran and retired in +1970 from the United States - Air Force after 27 years of ser- ‘vice with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his retirement, he ‘worked for Horrace Sick & ‘Sons. He also worked for the - Procter & Gamble Company in Mehoopany, from where he re- tired after 20 years of service. He served on the Tunkhan- nock Borough Council, the Tunkhannock Ambulance As- sociation where he was a past president and was a member of ‘the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge 1276, Temple Lodge 248 F&M and the Irem Temple Shriners. GUYETTE - William L., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C., after a short illness. Born in Trucksville, he gradu- ated from St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 on the destroyer U.S.S. Doyle. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he founded Trucksville Ra- dio in 1947. This was the begin- ning of his entrepreneurial spirit creating Guyette’s TV, known to- day as Guyette Communications. He retired and passed the torch onto the second generation in 1992, but remained involved since that time. He was a member and past president of the Dallas Kiwanis Club and was awarded the 50- year service pin before moving to Tunkhannock. After moving to Tunkhannock, he became a mem- ber of the Tunkhannock Kiwanis Club and the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock. He served on the board of directors at St. Michael’s School for Boys in Ho- ban Heights. He was a founding member and past secretary/trea- surer of the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans, an association dedicated to preserving the histo- ry and culture of the Naval Train- ing Base located in Sampson, NY. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Stiles Guyette; sons, Bill, of Au- gusta, Ga.; and James, of Mehoo- pany; daughter, Mary Beth, of Tunkhannock; brothers, Ned, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Lee, of Lititz; and Bob, of Cambridge, Vt.; sis- ters, Joan Winters and Kathleen Nelson, both of Lititz; six grand- children. For over 25 years, she served as a Girl Scout leader and cookie chairman in Tunkhan- nock. She was an Avon represen- tative for more than 35 years. Born in Topeka, Kansas on Sep- tember 25, 1923, he graduated from Topeka High School and en- listed in the Naval Air Corps dur- ing World War II, serving aboard the USS Shangri-La in the Pacific Theater as a naval fighter pilot. After graduating from Wash- burn University, he went to work for Remington Rand for 25 years, retiring as regional manager of the Philadelphia office in 1969. He then became proprietor of Sawyer’s Office Machines in Wilkes-Barre which he operated until 1982.
