Seven senior members of the Dal- las High School girls basketball team were honored, along with their parents, last Friday night before their final home game. Senior mem- bers of the team are Kristen O’Brien, Katherine O’Brien, Danielle Kra- wetz, Melissa Gorski, Ally Evans, Lyndsay Ellis and Erin Delaney. The Lady Mountaineers are now competing in District 2 competition. Erin Delaney is congratulated by her teammates and presented with flowers, balloons and a gift during ceremonies to honor senior members of the Dallas High School basketball team. Niznik leads victory 3RD & 4TH GRADE McCarthy Tire 19 Eastern Penn 17 Adam Niznik scored eight points and Frankie Bevevino add- ed five as McCarthy Tire edged Eastern Penn, 19-17 in the Dallas Youth Basketball League. Anthony Del uca-added four points and Paul Zablotney keyed the defense for McCarthy Tire. Chad Phillips led Eastern Penn with eight points, followed by Ray Ostroski with seven. Justin Novitski played fine defense. Gattuso Group 28 Walgreens 13 J.J. Lyback led the scoring with support from Tanner Gattuso and David Simpson as Gattuso Group Accountants & Consultants de- feated Walgreens, 28-13. Dalton Gattuso and Connor Motley also scored for the win- ning team, while Stephen Dar- ling led Walgreens with five points and Connor Macarty add- ed four. J.D. Barrett, Daniel Sweeney and Michael Farrell added two points each. SIXTH GRADE BOYS TOURNAMENT TEAM DYB 46 Gate of Heaven 41 Kyle Razawich scored 15 points and Chad DeBona added 11 as the Dallas Youth Basketball sixth grade boys tournament team defeated previously unbea- ten Gate of Heaven, 4641, in the Sunday Lehman League. Aaron Napkora added nine points for DYB, while Justin Bro- jakowski and Nigel Stearns had four points each. Blake Williams made three key free throws in the last minute of the game. MAKOWSKI SCORES 500TH POINT Chase Makowski, a member of the Gate of Heaven Gators bas- ketball team, scored his 500th career point on February 10 and was presented with the game ball. SPORTS BRIEFS Tryouts slated for basketball program The Rock Recreation Center, 340 Carverton Rd., will hold tryouts for its boys travel AAU basketball program, Rock Solid Basketball, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. The tryout is open to boys between 10& 11 years of age who are in fourth or fifth grade. The AAU basketball season runs March 17 through April 28. Cost for the tryout is $10 per player. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with the tryout beginning promptly at 4:30. For more information, contact Doug Miller at 696-2769. Junior Mounts set registration dates The Dallas Junior Mounts Football and Cheerleading Asso- ciation will hold registrations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sat- urday, March 15, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Dallas American Le- gion. The Wyoming Valley Striders recently held a dinner and named students from Wyoming Val- ly Conference schools as 2007 Cross Country All Stars.
