But the end result is worth it.” Bachman, who spent five years making the film, has been impressed with the public’s reac- tion to it. “When I saw it come up on the screen at Movies 14, I knew we truly had a movie here,” he said of the film. “Then, when we tried it on a test audience, it fit like a cum because nobody really knew who she was. “Whenever asked about her, people would just say she was somebody who was raised by the Indians,” he said. Bachman relates the story about how, in 1837, the Lancas- ter Intelligencer-Journal pub- lished a story about a man who had met a white woman who told him she had grown up along the Susquehanna River. Because Lancaster was the on- ly town along the Susquehanna the man was familiar with, he sent a letter to the newspaper there which, in turn, published the letter. A priest, originally from Wilkes-Barre then living dfi-Lan- caster, read the letter and & > SRE thought, “This has to be Joseph Slocum’s sister who was lost 60 years ago.” “Her life story is incredible,” Bachman said. “I'm not smart enough to make this stuff up.” Bachman will leave Wyoming Valley at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, en route to Peru, Indi- ana with the woman who plays the aged Frances Slocum and the woman who portrays her moth- er. The movie will then be pre- sented in Indiana.
