Adamitz, a long- time resident of the Back Mountain, died Thursday, Oc- tober 11, 2007, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in West Pittston, she is survived by her brother, Ed- ward Novitsky; cousin, Irene Socash; nieces, nephews and cousins. CARL MONTROSS Served in Army during World War II Carl E. Montross, Sr., 86, of Lake Township, died on Tues- day, October 16, 2007 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospi- tal. Born December 12, 1920, in Buckwheat Hollow, he honor- ably served his country as a ser- geant in the Army during WW II in Korea. In his early years, he was employed by the Ford Garage in Luzerne and then was employed as a machinist for the Kanaar Corp., Wilkes- Barre, for 22 years and retired from Native Textiles, Dallas. After retirement, he was a bus driver for the Lake-Leh- man School District for five years. He was a former member of the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Harveys Lake, where he served as treasurer and board member. He attend- ed the Bowman's Creek Free Methodist Church. He was honored by the Red Cross with a plaque for donating over eight gallons of blood through- out his life. Surviving are his wife, the former Mona Deater, with whom he celebrated his 67th wedding anniversary on Octo- ber 6; ason, Carl E. Barrall, 69, of Leh- man Township, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Wilkes- Barre General Hospital, after being stricken ill while hunting in Jackson Township. Born in Jackson Township, he was a graduate of Lehman- Jackson-Ross High School, class of 1956. He was employed by American Asphalt, Wagner Construction = Co., Central Penn Construction and Air Products. He retired from the State Correctional Institution at Dallas as a tradesman/wel- der in 2001. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and was a member of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church and the Na- tional Rifle Association. ISABELLE GROMNIAK Moved to Hunlock Creek in 1984 Isabelle K. Gromniak, 97, of Hunlock Creek, died Sunday, October 21, 2007, at Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Born in Nanticoke on Sep- tember 4, 1910, she resided in Nanticoke for most of her life, moving to Hunlock Creek in 1984. She was a member of Our La- dy of Mt. Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth. Surviving are her sons, Jo- seph, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and George Jr., with whom she re- sided; a daughter, Joan Stuber, Warwick, N.Y.; 11 grandchil- dren; numerous great-grand- children and great-great grand- children. GERARD HARRIS Was avid horseshoe pitcher Gerard H. Harris, of Ide- town, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at his hunting cabin in Lycoming County. Born in Luzerne, he was a graduate of Luzerne High School. He served his country as a Marine in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his military service, he was em- ployed in the coal mines. Later, he started his own company, G.H. Harris Associates Inc., which celebrated its 50th anni- versary in September, of which he was president until his death. He was a member of Our La- dy of Victory Church, Harveys Lake; Daddow Isaacs Ameri- can Legion Post 672, Dallas; the National Rifle Association; and the Yellow Jacket Hunting Camp, Lycoming County. He was the 1981 Pennsylvania State Horseshoe Champion. NELLIE SCOUTON Was former Scout leader Nellie J. Scouton, 86, of Nox- en, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the Star Hill Rest Home, Beaumont. Born in Dallas Township on March 24, 1921, she graduated from Dallas High School in 1939. She was a member of the Noxen United Methodist Church and was a leader in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy E. Campbell, 88, of Sweet Valley, died Monday, Oc- tober 15, 2007, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Hellertown, he was instrumental in locating and constructing the Luzerne County Fall Fair to its current site and oversaw the horse barn show ring, the judge’s stand, the pavilion stand and parking lot. He was an active Luzerne County 4-H leader for eight years. He was employed by the for- mer Mountain Springs Ice Houses for five years and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years. He worked in construction for his uncle, Dana Sickler. He was also superintendent for Culp Brothers Construction, War- den, Lowry and Campbell Con- struction, Lowry Construction and Dugan and Marcon Con- struction. He also was the former own- er of Frances Slocum Boat Rentals for 15 years and owned and operated Benton Roller Mills for 19 years, retiring at the age of 86. Surviving are his son, Tho- mas, Hunlock Creek; daughter, Robyn Smith, Sweet Valley; brother, Lyle, Huntsville; six grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren.
