Runner, 42, of King- ston, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia, he attend- ed Luzerne County Community College and earned a diploma in warehousing from the Hiram G. An- drews School, Johnstown, Pa. After completing his diploma, he went to work for Boscov's in downtown Wilkes-Barre. He worked in the cus- tomer service area and warehouse operations for almost 19 years. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #233, Shavertown and had attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1983. At Camp Acahela in Blakes- lee, he was elected by his peers a member of the Order of the Arrow, a group within Scouting that hon- ors the Scouts’ spirit, camping abil- { and first class rank among his fel- w Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Back Mountain Jaycees and the Shavertown United Methodist Church. Surviving are his parents, Wil- liam A. and Joanne Sides Runner; a brother, William A. Born in West Pittston, she graduated from Factoryville High School in 1937 and Wyoming Valley Homeopathic Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, as a registered nurse in 1940. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pittston, and the Irem Temple Directors Staff La- dies, serving as president from 1979 to 1980. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Charles; three children, William C. Gelb, Harding; Charlotte Farley, Sweet Valley; and Dr. Ernest Gelb, Wyoming; nine grand- children; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and ne- phews. Memorial donations to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704. JOSEPH REGAN Served with Army in France and Germany Joseph W. Regan, 92, of McAuley Drive, Dallas, died Friday, September 7, 2007, at Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Dallas. Born in Bayonne, N.J., he served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany as a staff sergeant and radio chief for the 114th Infantry, 44th Division. He lived most of his life in the Jersey Shore area, was involved in the restaurant business for several years and participated in the construction of the Driscoll Bridge of the Garden State Parkway. He then became a manager in the appliance department of Sears in Middletown, N.J., until his retirement. He was an active member and participated in the resto- ration of St. Michael's Parish Church in Cherryfield. He was a member of the American Legion and several ser- vice organizations. Surviving is a cousin, Jane Cochrane, of Staten Island, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews, including Sr. Jane F. Kennedy, RSM and Therese A.
