MU professor has article published Mark Painter, Ph.D., profes- sor of philosophy at Miser- icordia University, recently had an article published in the summer edition of “Southwest Philosophy Review.” The article, “Taking Heideg- ger for True: A Commentary on Brandon Absher’s ‘Ordinary Language in Being and Time,” is a commentary on a paper written by Absher, a philoso- pher from the University of Kentucky, on ordinary lan- guage in Martin Heidegger’s 1927 book, “Being and Time,” which is considered by many to be the most important philo- sophical work of the 20th cen- tury. In his paper, Painter fills out the meaning of authentic talk according to the German phi- losopher’s work as it might manifest itself in ordinary language. He also sheds some light on the character of theoretical- assertoric discourse as in- formed by authenticity. The Dallas resident has been a member of the department of philosophy at Misericordia University since 1993. He has a doctorate in philos- ophy from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s from The Evergreen State College. MU’s Speziale to be inducted into Academy of Nursing Education Helen J. Streubert Speziale, Ed.D., associate vice president of academic affairs at Miser- icordia University, will be among 41 nursing educators inducted into the inaugural class of the National League of Nursing’s (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education in Septem- ber. She earned her doctorate at Teach- ers College Columbia Uni- versity and is a Certified Nurse Educator by NLN. At Misericordia University, Speziale oversees the Writing Center, Assistive Technology Research Institute (ATRI), Office of Sponsored Research, Service Leadership Center, Circle of Friends, Learning Resource Center and the In- salaco Center for Career Devel- opment’s internship and in- ternational programs. She most recently served MU as special assistant to the president for sponsored re- . _ search and national programs, where she was the adminis- trator for the Office of Spon- sored Research and was the director of the Ready Campus initiative, ATRI and Service Leadership Center.
