The indoor percussion group won first place, marking the fifth time it has taken top honors. The group also won first place in 19098, 2000, 2002 and 2005. Kindergarten Readiness Programs scheduled The Dallas School District will conduct Kindergarten Readiness Programs for the parents and /or guardians of incoming Kin- dergarten students. Kiwanis awards two scholarships At a recent dinner meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Dallas pre- sented two book scholarships to seniors from Lake-Lehman and Dallas High Schools. This particular scholarship is the Annual Golf Scholarship given in memory of former Kiwanis member Walter Kozem- chak. The scholarship recipients are recommended by their high school golf coaches on the basis of academic achievement as well as achievement in their chosen sport of golf. This year’s recipients were David Hanadel from Dallas High School and Kurt Jones from Lake-Lehman. David is the son of George and Sandi Hanadel. He will attend Millersville Uni- versity. Kurt is the son of Terry and JoAnn Jones and will attend Bloomsburg University. Pre-school students visits center residents The pre-school class of The Little Meadows Learning Cen- ter, Dallas, regularly visits with the residents of The Meadows Nursing Center. The residents of the center truly enjoy these visits. The children sing songs, tell stories and participate with arts and crafts. This is consid- ered a highlight of the day at the center. Friedman Observatory open Monday nights The Friedman Observatory at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman Township offers opportunities to view the night sky through a comput- erized 16-inch Meade telescope. The observatory is open to the public starting one hour after sunset on clear Mondays. If Monday is not clear, the observ- atory will be open Tuesday at the same time.
