Buyers Viehman lives in the Philadel- phia area and has worked as a teacher, trainer and administra- tor for various non-profit agen- cies. She most recently served as director of Children’s Education Programs at Awbury Arboretum in Philadelphia before leaving that position to help her father in his last days. Estella Parker Killian, region- al director of the Alzheimer’s As- sociation Greater PA Chapter, which serves a 15-county area of central and northeast Pennsylva- nia, reports that the disease af- fects 4.5 million Americans. Proceeds from “An Affair to Remember” will help fund a 24- hour Helpline, support groups, family caregiver trainings, com- munity education, advocacy and professional offerings. Food Pantry lists needs While all non-perishable foods are welcome at any time by the Back Mountain Food Pantry, the greatest needs currently are for canned stews and meats, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, canned, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, * pudding mixes, Jell-O, Pancake mix and syrup, cake mixes, cereal, sugar and rice. Due to the generosity of Back Mountain residents, the food pantry was able to help dozens of families during the cold and snowy months. Without the supplies of food at the pantry, many families would have been forced to choose between food and fuel, and many of our elder- ly residents would have been forced to choose between food and their medications. Individuals or groups wishing to donate food may call the food pantry at 696-2917 for informa- tion or to arrange a mutually convenient time for volunteers and healthy life. John P. Corcoran Coroner on duty to receive the food. Street sweeping to begin in Dallas The Dallas Borough Road Department is holding its an- nual spring street sweeping program. The program is ex- pected to begin immediately, weather permitting, and will continue until all borough roads have been cleaned. The department requests residents follow a few simple instructions to assist the staff in the collection of road cinders and winter materials deposited throughout the winter driving season. Residents are asked to rake all cinders to the side of the road in even layers, avoiding large piles and under no circum- stances should cinders be swept into the storm water catch ba- sins. Property owners should not fill containers with cinders in excess of 20-25 pounds as collec- tion is made more difficult. Heavy containers may not be picked up. Rocks, limbs and yard waste should not be in- cluded for pick up with the street cinders and green recy- cling containers should not be placed curbside. Rotary Ambassador scholarship available Scholarships for Rotary Am- bassadors are available for resi- dents or students at an institu- tion of higher education in Ro- tary District 7410, which con- sists of Luzerne, Bradford, Carbon Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Students must have complet- ed two years of college. The scholarship may be used at a university in any of the 170 countries in the world that have Rotary Clubs, other than the home country of the applicant. Scholarship applications must be submitted through a Rotary Club in District 7410. The Ro- tary Club will forward the com- pleted application with a recom- mendation to the district schol- arship committee by May 21. The committee will interview applicants in early June 2007 and send a recommendation to the Rotary Foundation, which will award the scholarship and assign the scholar to a universi- ty from among those listed by the applicant.
