Proceeds from the event will benefit Wyoming Valley Chil- dren’s Association, a United Way agency which provides therapeutic services to children who have disabilities, including speech delays. The event is being sponsored by Advanced Pain Management Specialists, P.C., The Mountain 102.3, Froggy 101, 98.5 KRZ and Fox 56. The show will feature bikes and other merchandise from several area motorcycle dealers. . Pocono Mountain Leather will present a biker-style fashion show at noon and 2 p.m. while vendors and a face painter ill also be at the show. The show is a People’s Choice Bike Show and all motorcycle owners and enthusiasts are invited to enter their bikes in the show at a cost of $10 per bike. Prizes will be awarded to the top five favorite motorcy- cles. Admission is $5 (children ages 10 years and under are: admitted free) and the public is invited to attend. Food Pantry lists needs While all non-perishable foods are welcome at any time by the Back Mountain Food Pantry, the greatest needs currently are for canned stews and meats, canned fruits and vegetables, ' peanut butter and jelly, canned spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, pudding mixes, Jell-0, pancake ix and syrup, cake mixes, 0 sugar and rice. Due to the generosity of Back Mountain residents, the food pantry was able to help dozens of families during the cold and fi? snowy months. Without the supplies of food at the pantry, many families would have been forced to choose between food and fuel, and many of our elder- ly residents would have been forced to choose between food and their medications. Individuals or groups wishing to donate food may call the food pantry at 696-2917 for informa- tion or to arrange a mutually convenient time for volunteers on duty to receive the food. Street sweeping to begin in Dallas The Dallas Borough Road Department is holding its an- nual spring street sweeping program. The program is ex- pected to begin immediately, weather permitting, and will continue until all borough roads have been cleaned. The department requests residents follow a few simple instructions to assist the staff in the collection of road cinders and winter materials deposited throughout the winter driving season. Residents are asked to rake all cinders to the side of the road in even layers, avoiding large piles and under no circum- stances should cinders be swept into the storm water catch ba- sins. Property owners should not fill containers with cinders in excess of 20-25 pounds as collec- tion is made more difficult. Heavy containers may not be picked up. Rocks, limbs and yard waste should not be in- cluded for pick up with the street cinders and green recy- cling containers should not be placed curbside. Rotary Ambassador scholarship available Scholarships for Rotary Am- bassadors are available for resi- dents or students at an institu- tion of higher education in Ro- tary District 7410, which con- sists of Luzerne, Bradford, Carbon Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Students must have completed two years of college. The schol- arship may be used at a uni- versity in any of the 170 coun- tries in the world that have Rotary Clubs, other than the home country of the applicant. Scholarship applications must be submitted through a Rotary Club in District 7410. The Ro- tary Club will forward the com- pleted application with a recom- mendation to the district schol- arship committee by May 21. The committee will interview applicants in early June 2007 and send a recommendation to the Rotary Foundation, which will award the scholarship and assign the scholar to a universi- ty from among those listed by the applicant. Volunteers needed at The Meadows The volunteer department at The Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas needs volunteers who “would enjoy escorting residents in wheelchairs to the in-house physical therapy department or beauty shop. The hours are 9:15 a.m. to noon daily. Volunteers may work on an as-needed basis or on a regular one-day-a-week schedule. The hours of operation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Spring cleanup is only available to Dallas Borough residents. New regulations will be en- forced for the 2007 spring clea- nup. Dallas Borough will re- quire all residents to obtain an admission permit for the clea- nup and the following fee schedule will be implemented: Cars and small SUVs will require a $5 permit (unlimit- ed). Mini Vans, midsize SUVs and small pick-up trucks will require a $10 permit (one trip limit). Full size pick-up trucks, utility trailers and cargo vans of less than one ton will require $20 permit (one trip limit). Large vehicles over one ton will require a $50 permit (one trip limit). Proof of residency such as a tax bill or driver’s license will be required to purchase the necessary permit. Admission permits will be issued to the occupants, not owners, of Dal- las Borough rental units. Resi- dents will be limited to one of each permit type. In an effort to avoid delays at the drop off site during cleanup week, residents are asked to pre-purchase their permits during borough office hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4p.m. at the Dallas Borough Municipal Building. No refunds will be issued. Residents are reminded that the borough will not accept municipal waste, recyclables including yard waste, toxic or hazardous materials, asbestos, large construction debris, paint/paint cans, batteries and ashes. The borough will accept a limited number of non-com- mercial vehicle tires at a fee of $3 for each tire. All residents will be required to present the permit and prop- er identification to police offi- cers on duty at the entrance to the cleanup site located on King Street off Norton Avenue at the rear of the municipal building.
