Youth lacrosse arrives The new Back Mountain Bandits lacrosse program kicked off its histo- ry-making 2007 season last week with all of its boys teams starting play for the first time. The action started with the Ull and U13 teams playing in the Spring Thaw Scrimmage Tournament at Owens J. Roberts High School in Pottstown against other teams from Pennsylvania, including Brandy- wine, Great Valley, Lionville, Phoe- nixville and West Bradford. The following day the U15, Ul3 and Ull teams hosted the Saucon Valley Panthers of Allentown and played the first-ever youth lacrosse games in the Back Mountain. The U15 squad won its contest, 3-1, over the Panthers with two goals scored by Brian Suchoski and one by Matt Hopfer. Assisting on the goals were Bret Wanek, Kaleb Taylor and Tyler Kirby. Playing excellent midfield and at- tack for the Bandits were Donald Thrash, Andrew Murray, Nate Wil- son, Colin Kirby, Aaron Lisses, Kur- tis Manganella, Tim Piatt and Nath- an Rinehouse. Defensively, John Butchko, Zach Taylor, Morgan Co- hen, Thomas Kempinski, Kyle Par- sons, Tim Rowlands and Garret Hopfer shut down the Panther attack and goalies Brian Deluca and Mitch Zampetti combined for 28 saves. Saucon Valley stormed out to an early 3-0 lead but the defensive, led by Jimmy Caffrey, David Lasco, Kris- tin Stayer, Hunter Hackling and Le- wis Hackling, stiffened and held the Panthers scoreless in the second half. The midfield and attack respon- ded with aggressive play by Francis Hickey, Eric Gotoweski, Kyle Poray, Ricky Stayer, Ryan Gilmartin, Dante Zurenda, Dmitry Perry and Joey Mis- cavage and scored five unanswered goals with three by Qunicy Patrick and two by Gus Diana. Assisting on the goals were Brian Lee, Joey Dela- mater, Blake Pertl, Ray Schultz and Alex Hoyt. Goalies Dante DeAngelo and Ge- orge Pfeiffer combined for 22 saves. The Ull team jumped out to an early 2-1 lead but eventually lost, 6-2, to a very experienced Saucon Valley team. The Bandits got two goals from Reilly Breig and assists from Daniel Frascella and Josh Weaver. The midfield and attack played well and were constantly putting pres- sure on the Panthers with great play by Jacob Rome, Ryan Cohen, Eric Smith, Gregory Navestad, Corey Pa- trick, Mike Olenginski, Omar Nij- meh, Andy Bobynsky, David Eifert, Louis DeNaples, Ryan Flanagan, Jo- seph Campolieto and Alex Manga- nella. The defense was led by J.T. Carey, Drew Cohen, Kyle Kotulski, Paul De- Naples, Owen Kiluk, Brendan Scan- land, Robert Bertram, Duncan Breig, Cael Wylam, Samuel Parente, Collin Pertland Joey Stier. Gavin Lewis and Jacob Yaple com- bined for 18 saves in goal. The U-19 high school team started its season against Central Susque- hanna but came up short, 16-5. Ri- chard Wengrzynek and Eoin Ellis each scored two goals with Matt Hopfer scoring one. Assisting on the goals were Mitch Cohen, Mike Den- nis, Garison Arcuri and Tom Youells.
