McGuire, 102, of Scio- ta, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 in the Pleasant Valley Manor, where she was a resi- dent. She was the widow of Vincent J. McGuire, who passed away in 1987. Eva was a second-grade teacher for many years in the Kingston Town- ship School District, retiring in 1966. Born in Seibertville, she was a daughter of the late George and Stella (Loeffler) Thomas. was a resident of the Sciota «ea since 1985. Prior to that, she resided in the Trucksville area. She was a graduate of Bloomsburg Normal School in 1924 and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1950 from Col- lege Misericordia. + She was amember of Nesbitt Memorial Hospital for many years, having served as the president of the Back Moun- tain chapter. Eva was also a charter member of the Delta Kapta Gamma Teachers Soror- ity. Eva was a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church of Hamilton Square, an avid bridge player and member of the quilters group with the Blue Ridge Auxiliary of Say- lorsburg. Eva is survived by a daugh- ter, Claire (McGuire) Parker, and husband John H. Sr., Scio- ta; granddaughter Patricia Bunnelle and her husband, Paul, Sciota; grandson John H. Parker Jr. and his wife, Mary Louise, Sciota; eight great- grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren. Interment, Laurelwood Cemetery. Sullivan, 88, Wilkes- Barre, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born in Dallas, son of John and Minna Harris Sullivan. He graduated from Dallas High School and attended East Stroudsburg University. For many years, Gerald worked as a sales- man and small-business owner, finishing out his employment at Valley Crest in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Nativity Church, Ply- mouth, which is now All Saints’ Church. He and his wife, Helen Moritz Sullivan, celebrated their 60th an- niversary in October. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daugh- ters Barbara Bruno and her hus- band, James R. Bruno MD, Plains Township, and Kathleen Sullivan, - San Jose, Calif. Grandchildren are Emily Bruno, New York; Matthew Bruno and his wife, Sarah, New York; Douglas Bruno and his wife, Amanda, Philadelphia; Laura Bru- no, Philadelphia; and Spencer Sauke, San Jose. Brody, 79, of Noxen, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Geisinger South Wilkes- Barre. A lifelong resident of Noxen, Mrs. Brody was born in Noxen on Dec. 3,1927, a daughter of the late Lewis and Anna Cragle Hackling. She graduated from Noxen High School in 1945. She was a member of St. Luke’s Reformation Lutheran Church, Noxen, and its Ladies Aid and had taught Sunday school for many years. She was also member of the Dallas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Shirley loved to sew and was a talented crafter. She was preceded in death by brothers George, Robert and Le- wis Hackling. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, George Bro- dy: son Douglas G. and his wife, Deborah, of Noxen; granddaught- ers Heather A. In association with her late hus- band, Edward A., she was involved in the operation of the Orange Farm Dairy. CATHERINE STORY Member of Northmoreland Baptist Church Catherine Story, 96, of Cen- ter Moreland, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Theodore Montross, on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007. Born in Edwardsville, on Au- gust 28, 1910, she was a daugh- ter of the late Andrew and Sophia Krempa Welitchko. Mrs. Story was a member of the Northmoreland Baptist Church, Center Moreland. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Story; sisters Mary Macieko and Anna Strazdus; and a brother, Stephen Welitchko. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by grandsons, Bryan Montross and wife, Cheryl; William Mon- tross and wife, Jennifer; and granddaughter Erin Montross, all of Center Moreland. WALTER YOCKAVITCH Resided in Sweet Valley for 31 years Walter Yockavitch, 98, of Sweet Valley, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at the Golden Liv- ing Center, Plains Township. Mr. Yockavitch was born in Miners Mills, Aug. 8, 1908, a son of the late Anthony and Theresa Boback Yockavitch. He resided in Sweet Valley for 31 years, prior to moving to the Golden Living Center five years ago. Prior to retiring, he was employed by AT&T, Jer- sey City, N.J., for many years. Mr. Yockavitch was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth. His wife, the former Helen Lugoski, died in 1998. He is survived by a brother, Leo, of Jim Thorpe.
