The theme for year’s contest is “We The People.” The competi- tion consists of an 810-minute, memorized oration on some phase of the United States Consti- tution and a 3-5-minute extem- pore oration on one of four topics assigned by the national head- quarters. The first-place winner will re- ceive a $7,500 scholarship, plaque, and a paid trip to the Pennsylvania American Legion State Conven- tion to present the winning ora- tion. The winner will also repre- sent Pennsylvania in national and regional contests and receive an additional $1,500 scholarship from the national organization. Collecting food and other needed items for the Little Sisters of the Poor has become a time-honored tradition for students at Gate of Heaven School in Dallas.
