SPORTS BRIEFS Baseball camp | set for King’s College ‘The19th annual Grand Slam Pre- Season Developmental Camp will be - held Jan 14, 21 and28, as well as Feb. 4, 11 and 25 at King’s College. The camp is under the direction of Monarch head coach Jerry Greeley. There will be guided instruction cov- ering hitting, pitching, catching, de- fensive play and conditioning each day. Greeley, who also serves as a coach in the Baltimore Orioles organization during the summer, guided King’s to the Freedom Conference champion- ship, the school’s first NCAA playoff appearance, and a school-record 25 wins last season. Greeley has a career record of 82-65 record during his four years at King’s and an impressive709-334 record in his coaching career. The Jan. 14 session, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will be for players in grades 9-12. ~The session is designed for high school baseball players who wish to ‘continue their academic/athletic careers at the collegiate level. . At the conclusion of the camp, a ‘NCAA rules education session will be conducted by the King’s staff for play- \ ers and families. The remaining sessions will be for players in grades 1-12. Soccer league seeks teams, players Back Mountain Youth Soccer Asso- ciation’s winter indoor soccer/Fustal league is seeking teams and individual players. : The games are played weekends from Jan. 5 through March 12. All games are played at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre gym in Lehman Town- ship with the new low bounce Fustal ball. There will be intramural and com- petitive divisions from U-6 through U-18. Steamtown Thunder continues to roll on ice The Steamtown Thunder Squirt Gold travel hockey team recently won a game and tied another in game played in the Philadelphia area. In the first game, David Eifert scored three goals as the Thunder came back from a 4-1 deficit to finish in a 6-6 tie against the Chester County Cougars. Louis DeNaples added two goals and Sam Salvino scored the other for the Thunder, who scored four unanswered goals in the third period. Shavertown resident Alex Hoyt as- sisted on two goals, while Tristen Hefty also recorded a pair of assists. DeNa- ples and Salvino also had an assist. \| Steamtown goalie Jeremy Wolinsky V/ stopped 15 shots to earn a hard-fought tie. In the second game, five different Thunder players recorded a goal — in- cluding Blake Pertl of Dallas — en route to a 5-2 win against the West Chester Quakers. Goalkeeper Ben Churchfield of Dallas stopped 12 of 15 shots to earn the win. In addition to Pertl, DeNaples, Salvi- no, Hefty and Patrick West scored goals for the winners. Hoyt, who narrowly missed scoring on an 80-foot shot in the closing seconds, recorded one assist while Wolinsky added two.
