PAGE 6 THE POST CHURCH Sunday, November 5, 2006 PRAYER SHAWLS MADE BY DALLAS UMC WOMEN The women of Dallas United Methodist Church have been knitting and crocheting prayer shawls. The shawls will be distributed to members of the church and community who are in need of comfort and friendship. The prayer shawl symbolizes shelter, peace, and spiritual sustenance. The shawls were blessed by the Rev. William D. Lewis during an Oct. 22 church service. A special prayer will be included with each shawl. Members of the prayer shawl group, from left, first row are Judy Donlin, Sue Woodeshick, Naomi Ward, Roni Duffield, Jen- nie Valick, Shirley Mahle, Fran Williams, Claire Kuehn and Karen Justus. Jean Myers, Laura Slocum and Beverly Brougher are also members of the group. DALLAS RESIDENTS RETURN FROM MISSION TRIP CHURCH Continued from Page 5 Men's breakfast held each Tuesday The Shavertown United Methodist Church recently began holding a weekly ecumen- ical men’s breakfast. The group meets at 8 a.m. each Tuesday at Pickett’s Charge restaurant on Route 415 in Dallas. The Dutch treat breakfast is followed by fellowship and a short devotion period. The breakfast, fellowship and devo- | tion period last no longer than one hour. Men from all Back Mountain Pastors Stephen and Mary Ann Kotch of River Of Life at King- dom Power Ministries in Shavertown returned recently from a two-week mission outreach to Fortaleza and Santeram, Brazil. While ministering in several churches and outdoor venues, the couple participated in numerous physical healings, including deaf ears opening, blind or legally blind seeing better than 80 percent, emotional, inner healing and deliverances. The Dallas residents were part of a global awakening mission trip that min- churches are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Bob Deeble at 696-2148. Awana Club meets at Grace Community © The Awana Club of Grace Community Church meets from 6-7:45 p.m. each Wednesday at the church, located across from ECUADOR Continued from Page 1 “Everyone there does it out of compassion,” said Weinman, who added the facility does not receive any funding from the Ecuadorian government. “The parents are so appreciative. Ev- ery parent volunteers a couple of hours each week at the school. Camp Hope is an amaz- ing organization.” Weinman says very few chil- dren in Ecuador receive regular medical care. “They see a doctor, but not very often,” she said. “They do have a hospital (in Quito), but that’s mostly for emergencies. The children don’t receive con- stant checkups.” The Weinmans also volun- teer their time locally. And they know they're not the only local residents who have visited Ecuador - or other Third World countries — to provide care to needy children. Shavertown plastic surgeon Dr. Francis Col- lini and his wife Susan have been traveling to Ecuador for years to help treat children born with severe birth defects. _ Suzy Weinman of Dallas shares smiles with a child at Camp Hope in Quito, Ecuador. “I know the work of Dr. Colli- ni very well,” said Weinman. “It shows there are a lot of wonder- ful people in this country. There are a lot of people who enjoy helping others.” The Weinmans are planning to return to Ecuador in July — if not sooner. “We'd love to go back in the spring, but I don’t know if that’s possible,” said Suzy Weinman, who has been sending care packages to the children. “The next time we go, we don’t have to go with the group. The facil- ity knows us. We're looking for- ward to going back. Everyone is so grateful for the help. We fell in love with the children.” THE LANDS AT HILLSIDE TR LARS ee “Farm to Table Freshness” NEPA’s richest tasting Dairy Store Milk & Ice Cream Open 8am to 8pm Daily Holiday Sale at Hillside Cottage Nov. 18th istered to almost 20,000 Brazilians.
