Organization historian Kiera Smith presented a scrapbook of historical events, photos and newspaper clippings relating to the Great Train Wreck of Sept. 1,1950 to museum curator David Kline, who gave the group a tour and provided interesting historical information about the 109th Field Artillery. Franklin Township receives $10,000 grant Franklin Township was re- cently awarded a $10,000 grant m the Pennsylvania Depart- nt of Community and Eco- nomic Development. The money will be used to ren- ovate part of the township’s mu- nicipal building. : “I am pleased that Franklin Township has been awarded this grant,” said state Rep. The program provides fund- ing for construction or rehabil- itation of infrastructure, build- ing rehabilitation, acquisition and demolition of structures or land, revitalization or construc- tion of community facilities, pur- chase or upgrade of machinery and equipment, planning of community assets, public safety, crime prevention, recreation, and training. Local government, municipal and redevelopment authorities and agencies, industrial devel- opment authorities and agen- cies, non-profit organizations in- corporated under the laws of the Commonwealth, and communi- ty organizations engaged in ac- tivities consistent with the pro- gram’s guidelines are eligible for funding under the program. The four-day event concludes to- day. The Dallas Middle School seventh-grader qualified in the Hunter Under Saddle Ponies category. In addition to her 4-H accomplishments, Jayne has also received numerous awards and championships in other competitions. On Nov. 18, Jayne and Lonewood Figaro will receive the Green Hunter high-point championship award at the Northeastern PA Horsemen's Association's year-end banquet. The daughter of Beth Rosencrans and Sam Jayne is a member of Bridles and Grooms 4-H Club. DOWNS DONATES HAIR TO LOCKS OF LOVE Abby Downs, a fourth grade student at Wycallis Elementary School in Dallas Township, re- cently donated 1 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. The orga- nization uses donated human hair to make wigs for adults and children who have lost their hair through illness and chemother- apy. Downs was motivated to donate her hair after a friend of hers lost his hair while undergo- ing chemotherapy treatments.
