BRIEFS Blood drive July 25 at FEFC The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Fellow- ship Evangelical Free Church on Hildebrandt Road in Dallas Township. The already low blood supply has been deleted more by the flood of 2006 and many blood drives have been canceled. _ In order to reduce the time you must spend at the drive, the American Red Cross has initiated an appointment pro- ram and encourages advance egistration. Legion holding annual peach sale The Dallas American Legion is holding its fifth annual Per- fect Peach Sale. The freestone peaches are grown in Adams County. The sale is being held in memory of Jack Good, who started the peach sale and recently passed away. Pre-orders are requested and are being taken by committee members or at the Dallas American Legion Post Home on Route 415 in Dallas. Peaches can be picked up at the Post Home from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The prices are $8.50 per peck, $17 per one-half bushel, and $32 per bushel. Lake-Noxen H.S. to hold reunion Alumni from The Lake-Nox- en High School will hold a reunion at noon Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Harveys Lake Bean Club picnic pavilion. The area was formerly known as Sandy Bottom Beach. A covered dish picnic lunch will begin at 1 p.m. The reunion is for graduates from the 1952 through 1959 classes, although all former students are invited to attend. Deer management to hold field day Quality Deer Management will hold a field day beginning t 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at @ Farm on Route 29, he farm is located 3.8 miles north of the intersection of routes 118 and 29 in Pikes Creek. Demonstrations will include how to take a soil sam- ple, spraying, tilling, planting, and the maintenance of a food plot. There will be observations of many different age food plots of annuals and perennials. The annual picnic of the North Mountain Branch of QDMA will begin at noon. Mem- bers of the group will discuss the book “Dragonwings” by Laurence Yep in fulfillment of the grant from the National Endowment of Humanities for the bookshelf “Becoming American.” Farmers Market opens at library The annual Farmers Market at the Back Mountain Memo- rial Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday through Sept. 16 on the library grounds, Huntsville Road in Dallas. Among the features at the Farmers Market are locally- grown seasonal fruits and vege- tables, gourmet international cheeses, fresh baked goods and dairy ice cream. Local vendors include Brace’s Orchard, Dy- mond’s Farm Market and Bak- ery, I Gourmet, Creekside, Emma’s Bakery and the Lands at Hillside Farms. Vendor stalls will be set up on the pavement of the library parking lot. Patrons are asked to park on the lawn behind the library. There is no street parking on Huntsville Road or Franklin Street. Food pantry in need of items The Back Mountain Food Pantry has a significant need for the following items — flour, sugar, salad dressing, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, canned fruit, canned pasta, ketchup and baked beans. Items may be dropped off at the food pantry, which is located at the Trucksville United Metho- dist Church. Food items may also be dropped off at the church office. For more information, call 639-2122. Dietrich Theater offering yoga The Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock will hold yoga classes from 10-11 a.m. Mon- days, Wednesdays and Sat- urdays. The instructors are Melissa Russo and Mary Franc- es Giordano, certified Hatha yoga instructors. The cost is $10 per lesson. The classes will teach or reinforce the basic yoga poses, which gently stretch and strengthen the body. Special attention will be given to proper breathing and alignment in the postures. Ultrasound society seeks new members The Northeastern Society of Ultrasound is now accepting new members for the 2006-07 year. The nonprofit local socie- ty consists of more than 65 ultrasound professionals and has been in existence for more than 15. Our members have a variety of experience in the specialties of general, OB/ GYN, vascular and cardiac sonography. Five meetings are planned for this year starting with a dinner meeting in Sep- tember. PARENT-TEACHER GROUP PLANS EVENTS The Gate of Heaven Parent Teacher Group will hold two back-to-school events for the 2006-07 school year. Family members of all registered students are invited to attend “Back to School Night" on Thursday, Sept. 7. The time of the event will be announced at a later date. The event will begin with a PTG meeting, then proceed into classroom breakouts, introducing parents to their student's classroom, homeroom teacher, and upcoming academic pursuits. Parents of all stu- dents - including those in the preschool, elementary and middle school - are encouraged to at- tend. An ice cream social will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at the school. It is open to current and prospective students and families. Teachers, staff and parents will be on hand to scoop ice cream and greet families. Children’s activities are also being planned. All parents of Gate of Heaven students, teachers and staff are automatically members of the Gate of Heaven PTG. Members interested in helping in the event planning are encouraged to attend meetings sched- uled for 7 p.m. Monday, July 24 and Monday, Aug. 21 at the middle school.
